thats just what it says it is, a parallel port header. if your case or whatever had a paralell port or you have a breakout cable or whatever you can plug that in there

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

"Here is some advice that might have gotten lost somewhere along the way in your life.

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

That's an ancient port that is not used for some 15 years, don't worry it's completely useless.

Besides some GPIO stuff (which your better off using a PI or something for it) I do not understand why it is still included in so many motherboards.

I get that its the same chip as for the serial device, but why even make the traces for it :D

Maybe some workstation boards for old tech / dongles ect need it, but consumer hardware?

WHy do we still have these but no ide ports? Because someone could find an ide optical drive for dirt cheap but th y can’t use it or have to buy an ide to sata adapter

because IDE has been replaced with something much better at this point.

granted, so is serial, but IDE is also a very big connector taking up a lot of board real estate.
