Hi all, just wondering if anyone has had any experience with putting an NH-D15 on an 8th gen Intel CPU in a Define C TG? The case website says that it can accommodate a maximum height of 170mm, and the CPU cooler is 165mm, so everything seems fine, but is going to be a bit of a squeeze. If anyone has had any experience/knows if it should be fine, please let me know :)

If you're worried about it fitting because of tight clearances, I wouldn't be. We put an R1 into my friends case, the clearance was 1mm. It was perfectly fine.

I'm confident it will fit as per spec. Just make sure you don't mount the fan higher than the radiator.

If you're interested in a product please download and read the manual first.

@dizmo @keskparane cheers for the replies guys. The only reason I'm even asking this is because when I took my spec sheet to a local PC shop, the salesman told me that I'd be better off getting a smaller CPU cooler, like an NH-D14, because, supposedly, the 8th gen Intel CPUs are thicker than the older models and as such add extra height that might see the CPU cooler end up flush with the side panel. Think I'll just have a crack at it, worst case scenario is that I'll have to swap out the CPU cooler if it doesn't fit.

Nah, the NH-D15 is better for the better fan clips alone which are much easier to work with.

Touching the side panel with a heatsink isn't bad. That being said, you'll have plenty of space to spare. The cooler is 160mm tall with the fans fully lowered.

Well I have an 8th gen in a Define S with the NH-D15. The Define S has 10mm more clearance than the Defince C. I have about 12mm clearance. So not saying it won't be close, but you should have clearance.

With 5mm of room, you're totally fine. I really dont think think the 8700k is 5mm (almost 1/4") thicker than previous chips. Additionally,Case amnufacturers will list a limit, but there might be a bit of wiggle room in that number (I got the Enermax ETS-T40 CPU cooler which is 161.7mm to fit in the S340 Elite which lists only 161mm clearance, and the cooler didnt touch the glass, though it's extremely close)

There's no need to take the cpu's height into account for cooler clearance since that's where it's measured from.

If it is true that the 8700K is indeed thicker than the previous generations (which I dont believe it is, but say it is for the sake of discussion) then it would matter, because the Define C series came out long before Intel's 8th gen was released. Therefore, all measurements for all cases prior to that date would have been to a different height, and would therefore have to be revised to properly reflect, or clarify that dimension.

That's technically correct although the extra height would be less than the manufacturing tolerance already taken into account for the case cooler clearance.
