forgot password on old laptop

how can I unlock it without the password?  I think there might be some old files that I can't find anywhere else.  it is running windows 7.

u can always get the HDD out of the laptop, connect it to other pc and get your files. You dont need windows pasword to get the files on other pc.

you can get offline nt password & registry editor and burn it to a thumbdrive using rufus. boot from it and follow the instructions to clear the password.
