A GTX 1080 Ti for $80 GBP?

hahaha.... oh, that's a serious question? HAHAHAHAHA

TL;DR, no of course it's not real. It's a scam.

The only possible way it's "real" is if those are stolen goods (In which case, you could be liable for buying stolen goods - and the best case is that you get your GPU confiscated, and maybe not even with compensation).

Imagine some idiot buying that thing and turns out it's just a flat 2D cardboard cut out of a video card.

I remember back in the day that used to happen all the time with XBOX's and stuff.

Someone would buy an "XBOX box", and not notice the second word in the title. And they would literally be sent an empty box with a picture of an XBOX on it.

But 100% positive feedback

There is a method which you can do on Ebay. I am pretty sure that whenever you buy an item off a seller, you both give each other feedback. To exploit this system, people like those who've listed those scam GPUs might have been buying tons of very cheap items from sellers who have an automatic positive feed back poster so that they'll always get positive feedback for themselves. Not sure if that is 100% the story but its close

I once did the unthinkable, back many headphones ago...

I split an audio split, again

I mean, if you want to throw away $100, go ahead and buy it. You can take that risk. No sane person would, though.

With that in mind, if it was sold on Amazon (Both sold and fulfilled by Amazon), it'd likely be a mistake (user error when listing the item).

In those cases, sometimes if you order quick enough, you can actually get the item for the stupid low price. Usually they just cancel your order and correct the price though.

But on any kind of "Marketplace"? Hells no. Insta-scam.

True, but that's not the case here ;)

People that buy them saying "oh I'll just get my money back from Paypal if it's fake" are the worst IMO. They're only amplifying the problem.

I wish they could be punished somehow. Not a popular view, but one I hold nonetheless.

Indeed, because when they DO get their money back, one of two things happens:

1. PayPal gets THEIR money back, from the seller

2. PayPal pays the buyer back with funds out of their profits

When #2 happens, which I suspect is far more common with real scammers who know what they are doing, then all it's doing is costing PayPal and eBay more money. When something costs them more money, they charge YOU more money, in the form of higher fees, etc. Even if the increased fees are seller only, the sellers are likely to increase prices to compensate.

Do they do that now? They used to just recoup what they could from the seller, and if they couldn't recoup it all, you didn't get all of your money back.

The fees are so minuscule on a per transaction basis that I think the increase would be unnoticeable.

I'd like to see claims for fraud investigated by a person. If they look at the auction and deem it was an obvious fraud (for example, this case) then I'd like to see them withhold either a % or a set fee, say $10 or $20. People would be a lot less likely to go clicking like it's something to do. The punishment might seem small, but it could be used to help people that actually get fucked over.

I'm fairly sure that as a Buyer, your protection is guaranteed regardless of what kind of remuneration PayPal can recover from the fraudulent seller.

I can tell you that if I bought something on eBay, and it was a scam, and they said "Sorry, we only recovered $20 out of the seller, so the other $180 is gone - too bad", I'd tell them to go fuck themselves, and escalate the case immediately, and demand full compensation.

http://pages.ebay.ca/ebay-money-back-guarantee/

The guarantee doesn't list any sort of percentage-recovery breakdown, it simply guarantees the money back.

The only restriction I can find, is that eBay only guarantees Vehicle purchases up to $50,000. You can buy a more expensive vehicle, but they'll cap your compensation at $50K.

It didn't used to be that way, as I've had several transactions where I haven't gotten the full amount back and their reason was that they were unable to get it from the seller. It didn't matter if the case was escalated or not.
