just because people download it doesn't make it good. Could not have liked so donated accordingly. People really donate believe me if they like it.

It's extremely well liked with 5 stars and 363 reviews

(was wrong about the downloads though.  Seems it peaked at 20,000 and currently has 6000 subscribed)

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

i don't know the specifics, maybe they feel the work put into it didn't deserve a donation. Or maybe people on that specific game are cheap asses :D

Mods:
Yes - If it is legal and offers New levels and features.  Extends the life of the game.
No - A technical advantage over other players.  The more you pay, the more you cream those who do not.

I think that's a problem with the gaming culture that can be solved rather than an issue with the business model itself. Ubuntu devs aren't having such big issues.

Difference being, Canonical offers paid support plans for enterprise markets.

Something is wrong with this world.

No idea.  Its a massive mod (adds an entire, fully realized faction to the game)  but from what he's told me nobody gets any money doing mods.

Who would you pay for the mod?  Must consider some may consider their work as IP and demand a too high a price and halt projects.  Their contribution may be really small in the over all work time contributed but very central in it's overall functionality.

Honestly, yes, but only if I knew all the money goes to the one that created it. Not split among the developer of the game and some online store ran by another company and then the creator gets like 0.1% of that.

And of course if the mod was actually worth spending money on it.

I think paid mods kinda defeats the purpose

I personally wouldn't pay for mods, especially not for skins or mods like the kind that adds a character/building/tree/different textures, item, etc...

I might be willing to donate if it expand the base game a lot, like those Skyrim Mods that add hundreds of new quests, items, cities, new land, etc...  and it's actually good.

But other than that, nope... wouldn't give a single cent to paid mods.

Especially not if whatever publisher*cough*bethesda*cough* decide to take a cut of the profit from the sales of said mod, when they haven't put a single man hour toward making them.

It's basically development free microtransactions/DLCs for them at that point. All profits, while spending nothing at all. Sure they made the base game, but that shouldn't entitle them to any sort of revenue based on the work of others.

I must be missing a large part of gaming. What game do people charge for mods? Ever game I've ever played with mods they were completely free.

i explain. If it is the company that made the game just release it as a patch or a free add on, i already paid for the frickin game. I hate DLC btw.

If it is something more do as the guys from dishonored did, release a new cheaper game. That's totally fine

Yes you did. That doesn't entitle you to content that they've made after you've purchased the game.

I love DLC, as long as it's actually more content and not released right after launch.

I think Asus Killer is more questioning the legality of third parties charging for mods rather than the morality.

I was pointing more towards him not wanting to pay for added content from large companies.
It's no different than paying smaller companies for their work. Work was done either way.

Why should companies be made to release any more work done on the game for free?

Companies frequently release games before they are fully functional to beat another company competing for market share and keep interest in their games.
Plus, when they release an app and it does have a bug that affects game play, would you pay for a fix to a defective product?  Or, would you expect to pay full retail every time a bug fix is released.  Mind you, if the game is really cheap to purchase and repurchase, that may not be an issue.

Bug fixes and such are almost always released for free. It's paying for additional game content that's the issue.
