Scrapyard has a long, and IMO very interesting story behind it (not a he, or she, just an it :P).

It started off as a used Dell Studio XPS 8100 I bought off Letgo for $300 (big mistake, you'll see why when I list the specs). I thought it was a good deal at the time, not having the knowledge I do know (although I did still know quite a bit), but it had an i5-750, 6GB of DDR3, a Dell motherboard, a Dell/Intel stock cooler, a Dell case, a Dell PSU (well, not a Dell PSU, but some OEM PSU that sucked ass), and a 1TB WD Black. They said it all worked great and came with a fresh install of Windows 10, but when I got it...yikes. The HDD was dying. Hard. How they didn't have the guts to say that, I don't know. It kinda pissed me off because I had to throw in $50 for a new 1TB WD Blue which I use to this day. I also knew I would need a new GPU and therefore a new PSU, so I bought a used 7950 of Kijiji for $65 and a Corsair CX550M Grey Label for $70. I put those in, and lo-and-behold, I blew a capacitor in the PSU! No clue how I did it, since I plugged everything in correctly, but I contacted Corsair and they said I got a faulty unit and was issued a refund. This is why I shy away from Corsair's PSUs, even though I know that was a faulty unit. Once I got the money, I bought an EVGA 600B, which I also use to this day. The last thing I bought was 8GB of Corsair XMS3 DDR3 @ 1333MHz since that was the highest my board could support. After installing all of those parts, I was flying. The system was blazing fast for my standards, and I loved it. After a few months of using it, I got a new keyboard for my birthday, and it was even better! But, around Q2 2017, my 7950 started artifacting, crashing, and just going bananas. I determined it was dying, and sold it, replacing it with a new RX 470 4GB. It was fast, good-looking, ran pretty cool and it was quiet. I used it for a few weeks, but then I noticed that prices were spiking due to miners, so I sold it for $80 extra on top of what I paid for it. I went back to using the original GPU that my Dell came with, which I belive was a 5450 (yikes). I used that up until I left for summer break to Europe, where I bought a 5870 1GB for a stupid price: $108 CAD once converted. IDK why I did it, but I did. I brought it home, installed it, and my 100% confirmed working card was artifacting. FUCK OOOOOOOOOOFFF!!!!11! Dear god. What is it with me and my GPUs? This led me to, in September, buy a used R7 370 4GB for $140 (could've gotten it for $100, but my parents wouldn't drive me 40 minutes to St. Thomas). I shelved the 5870 and used this setup for a few months, up until Christmas. I had found in November (I believe) an EXCELLENT deal on an Asus Sabertooth X58 motherboard, 16GB of DDR3, and an i7-950 for $120. The guy was super nice and included the RAM, a shitty case, and an Intel stock cooler for free! Sweet! I brought it home, but didn't use it until Christmas when I got a new case and cooler for it. Christmas comes around, and I put the CPU, motherboard, RAM, old GPU, old HDD, and old PSU in my new case, install my new cooler, and voila! This is my system today. Full specs are in my signature, and I'll post pictures soon (hopefully ;)). Thanks!

Honestly i couldn't be bothered to read the wall of text.  Hit that ENTER key from time to time dude if you want people to read.

I understand, but some people would've given me shit for not having enough info.

TL;DR: Bought a used desktop, threw in a used GPU, new PSU, new RAM and a new HDD, worked great, GPU died, sold it and bought a new one, sold that to earn money because mining, used previous GPU, previous GPU died, replaced with another GPU, that one also died, bought yet another used GPU that I am currently using, bought into X58, upgraded my system on Christmas.

You probably will need a beefier PSU if you go with X58 platform. there is no point in keeping i7-950 when you can get an overclockable 6-core xeon for around $50 US, but then xeon is pushed to 4.2-.4.4 gHz the system consumes around 350-400 watts without a load on the GPU. Have fun with x58 it is a great platform

I'll buy a Xeon probably around my birthday (late March) and maybe a better PSU, but we'll see.
