i would only recommend an NVME if you are either moving tonnes of data, or you are me and want an excuse to play with new technology, and compared to a cheap 5 year old SSD my system was noticeably  more snappy, however i would not pay more than £30 for the NVME counterpart over a standard SATA drive

M.2 is a form factor, like 2.5" vs 3.5" drives. It does not determine speed. The Protocol (SATA vs NVME) determine's speeds.
