Which 1060 6GB? For powering LG 27UD88-W (Photoshop usage)

kameshss

I'm currently helping out my friend for his Photoshop rig. He had an i3-2100 CPU and I upgraded that to a  3770 which will not be a bottleneck for 1060? yeah.

So, for his Photoshop usage, he needs a 4K monitor with good color calibration. So, went for 27UD88-W from LG.

Now confused between tons of GPUs on 6GB lineup.

I see that there are some 9Gbps editions. Will it be a good move if I go for that? I mean if it's good for the current usage scenario, he might buy it.

Please refer to this chart.

Ignore all the EVGA and Palit GPUs. It's not available in local store.

So, help me choose one. My goal is simple. He might do little bit of gaming in that. But absolutely not in 4K. Atleast in 1440p or 1080p max.

Help me choose a sweetspot GPU with price:performance ratio. Or you know if that "9Gbps" will work for the usage, suggest me that too.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Personally I would chose the MSI "Best Cooling" ...

Gigabyte I haven't used, but in the last times I frequently see "gigabyte gfx cards not working" threads.

Never got an EVGA so no personal opinion about those but from what I read "really good customer support"

For ASUS... personally got a 560 TI Direct CUII once... in wifeys machine... it was advertised as one of the coolest and most silent 560s... so that one was noisy AF and broken after a year of use... so I personally won't touch ASUS cards with range extended pliers...

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

Media System "Vio": Aorus Elite AX V2, Ryzen 7 5700X, 64 GB Ram DDR4 3200 Mushkin, 1 275 GB Crucial MX SSD, 1 tb Crucial MX500 SSD. IBM 5015 Megaraid, 4 Seagate Ironwolf 4TB HDD in raid 5, 4 WD RED 4 tb in another Raid 5, Gainward Phoenix GTX 1060

(Abit Fatal1ty FP9 IN SLI, C2Duo E8400, 6 GB Ram DDR2 800, far too less diskspace, Gainward Phantom 560 GTX broken need fixing)

Nostalgia: Amiga 1200, Tower Build, CPU/FPU/MMU 68EC020, 68030, 68882 @50 Mhz, 10 MByte ram (2 MB Chip, 8 MB Fast), Fast SCSI II, 2 CDRoms, 2 1 GB SCSI II IBM Harddrives, 512 MB Quantum Lightning HDD, self soldered Sync changer to attach VGA displays, WLAN

If he's mostly not doing gaming, a GTX 1050Ti should be great.

If he does a lot of gaming then a GTX 1060 should be fine.

As for brand: MSI makes good cards, Asus as well .

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I was really confusing between specific cards that is listed on the websites.

He might game sometimes, 1060 6GB is the only choice for him.

My confusion is "Which card?" My preference for the card are as follows EVGA>Asus>MSI>Zotac>Gigabyte>then others.

EVGA is eliminated since it's not available locally.

I'm stuck between Asus, Zotac, MSI Gigabyte for now.

I need to know which card is sweetspot for the money. like price:performance ratio.

I'm not really feeling good about Gigabyte cards as they're prone to coil while after while (as I've heard in many forums).

Asus and Gigabyte. Which card? I don't care about RGB and Stuff. It's okay if the cards are bigger. But not too much. Will be installing it in Antec GX200.

I just want a good price:performance card. Also, confused about the 9Gbps stuff. So, need clarification if it'll benefit for the said usage.

9Gbps is marketing bs. In most cases there's basically no difference.

You should buy the 8Gbps 1060 models.
