Bios Update - x58 - Meltdown/Spectre

In addition to the M$ update, are we going to need to update our bios?

And if so, are older motherboards, such as the x58 going to get an update?

Do I need to download a specific file to update my older cpu?

you have to start by downloading ryzen, probably a good idea to download some ram too https://www.downloadmoreram.com/download.html  (Old stuff could probably use it, but relies on manufacturers to care enough to put the fixes out)

If I want to stay on Windows 7 and be as secure as I can on an Intel-based system, then I should get Skylake. Is that correct?

It is my understanding that AMD processors made during the Win7 era would be a downgrade from a 980x.

http://www.tomshardware.com/news/intel-haswell-broadwell-spectre-update,36600.html

"The guidance also shows that Intel is planning on updating even older CPU microarchitectures, such as Penryn, Yorkfield, Nehalem, Westmere, and Wolfdale. This could mean that Intel is prepared to fix the Spectre and Meltdown flaws going back about 10 years, considering that Penryn was first released in 2007."

I'm not holding my breath for a bios update, considering the last mobo bios update for my UD3R was in 2011.

I'm also not concerned about meltdown or spectre for my personal PC.

I'm holding out for updates on Sandy Bridge (i7 2600k) as both Sandy and Ivy Bridge are currently in beta for microcode updates from Intel. I want to move to AMD Ryzen+ (the 2600 when it come out). Hopefully, more update hardware with better manufacturer and retail support for updates will pay off. Just the the cash first...
