What became of Elon's Satellite-based Internet vision?

Nicnac

Doesn't that article suggest that the first satellite will launch in 2019?

Edit: Well didn't find any news on that prototype launch though.

Edit 2: Seems test launches were delayed to this year. They changed the planed satellites to the MicroSat 2a and 2b (Some info).

The speeds for price offered by satellite is about 15mbps per 40$, not to mention when you have a rain storm

The idea behind it is that it's definitely not gaming or streaming lol

Also SpaceX's network is planned to have 100x current broadband speed.

I don't think they would be as cheap as we think in that case, ((no other option))'s case

I wouldn't have high hopes of seeing this completing in next 5 years. Remember how long it took Star Wars -program to finish?

Latency indeed is bad.  Even with a good dish using commercial sats, connection will at best may get a 300ms ping.

Myself, on a good day on my consumer level sat connection, I get a 600ms ping.  Speeds are actually not bad (I can actually stream with no problems), but the cap is murder (20GB cap).  Along with the price being expensive.

Where the heck you getting sat that cheap?

Actually, I would prefer companies to focus using RF bands with ground stations.  At most you run the fiber to the ground stations and antennas then have consumers use some decent size yagi antennas to receive and transmit.  Minimal need to run cables and probably could cover a good chunk of the country side to boot.  Plus, would keep latency down since you not trying to hit a bird up in orbit.

Like his other pipe dreams, hibernation.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.
