evxshadow

Hi guys im from Canada and I'm building a gaming rig with streaming as the main focus

Im just debateing whether to spend allmost $1000 on 1080ti

Or around$750 for 1070 ti

 Pls help me decide

I don't actually know what the diff is just that 1080 ti is better but perhaps for what I'm using it for i won't need it?

Both gpus don't fall into the budget category.

That's like going to a Ferrari dealer and asking for a budget Ferrari.

i'd go for the 1080 ti, the resell value will be better even if next gen comes out, and we are very late into the cycle, i've seen 1070 ti for 450 in the US and the 1080 ti has always been around 750, the 1080 ti would be the better bang for buck here.

I buy second hand at this point.

The new series are likely coming in mid-year now that VOLTA itself is out. Won't be long now.

Just a 1070 will be fine then for 1440p

You also don't need to spend as much as you're spending, and Ryzen is going to be fine for streaming as well while being a bit cheaper

Should also get the black version of the case as it has a mesh front for better airflow in general

And you don't need to buy windows, you can just install it directly from microsoft for free, you just get a small watermark.

You could possibly try and fit a Threadripper build in that budget, that would be a great streaming box.

You can overclock the 1070Ti, it is just that the manufacturers (EVGA, ASUS, MSI) can't give them a factory overclock.

You don't need the power of the 1080 Ti with your current setup. The 1070 Ti should be fine to push out two 1080p/60Hz and one 1440p/60Hz monitor for gaming and streaming (if you use Geforce Experience).

You can save yourself ~$400 CAD on a 1070 Ti with https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/jvwqqs/evga-geforce-gtx-1070-ti-8gb-sc-gaming-acx-30-black-edition-video-card-08g-p4-5671-kr and still be fine. However, if you don't mind breaking your budget the $53, the 1080 Ti will last you longer and allow you to upgrade your main gaming monitor to a 1440p high refresh rate monitor, or to a 4k monitor if you don't mind staying at 60Hz.

If you already have windows 10 you can just migrate your key for free, no need to buy windows

and if you aren't gaming at 144hz I'd suggest saving some cash with Ryzen unless you need to play something like ARMA 3

As someone mentioned earlier if it were me I'd dump all my money into the CPU

Depends on how serious you are for streaming and other video work though, as you can totally get a 16 core 1950X if you sacrifice your GPU for now, also no storage in this build yet.
