so i have alienwere 15 with 1070 i can play mostly everything ultra 60fps +

will how much improvement will i have with graphics amplifier and 1080 or 1080ti

will it be good enough for 4k gaming?

A 1080Ti in a graphics amplifier will probably not be worth it for the improvement you'll get.  eGPUs don't get anywhere near the FPS of the same card in a desktop and the 1070 in there is already a very capable card.

  • 1 month later...

I don't mean to step on Alex's toes, but I have an Alienware 17 R3 with a 980M and a 6700HQ, and I just got the graphics amplifier and a reference GTX 1080.  And on almost every game, I am only taking a 5-6% hit on framerates compared to regular desktop GTX 1080 benchmarks (the lone exception is Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, which runs about 10% behind).  I thought there would be more overhead to the external connection, but it keeps pace pretty well.  I game almost everything at Ultra in 4k resolution between 45-60 fps.

So, if you can live with losing around 5% of your famerate performance, then I think the Alienware AGA is a very good buy.  It is heads and shoulders above the Thunderbolt enclosures, which are all bottlenecked by the shared interface.
