h115i or noctua nh-d15 for the 8700k?

scanjet1000

If you're willing to use a bit more effort on install, and deal with the color the DH-15 is much better.

More reliable, pretty damn similar performance-wise.

Oh- and potentially even more quiet.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

A bit harder. Anyone can but it might take one or 2 minutes more.

I feel like this is more personal preference. Both are EXTREMLY good coolers. They will both preform relatively the same but the Corsair H115i will provide a cooler and quieter solution depending on what fans you install to the radiator. Personally I have the Corsair H110i V2 and I couldn't be more satisfied. But on the other hand i've had the NH-U14S as well and it was great! It up to your liking wether you want air or liquid cooling because both have their advantages. For me it's the H115i because I like the near silent opperation that it offers and I just overall prefer liquid cooling. Make sure your case can support the 240mm Radiator or the Huge heat sink on the NH-D15 before you decide.

@LynxFX I heard the h115i was about 10db louder than the d15. This is the only thing that's got me on the edge. What if its loud with the pump. might be annoying.

D15 or D15s. I am just not enamored by any of the water cooling systems out there. I have installed a few corsair AIO's in the past. They are okay. If it is a system you need to depend on, just get the air cooler. Then there are no questions.
Those Noctua's can handle massive amounts of heat and for the most part run dead silent. I am currently using C14S with an additional NF-A14 added to it. Super reliable fans and really good heat sinks.
Sure, there are instances where an AIO is needed because of limited space. But if you have the room for it, I would get the Noctua.

P.S. Noctua coolers are about as easy as it gets for installing an air cooler. Really good mount system.

The NH D15 is a better product as AiO coolers get hotter than air coolers, and you will get less noise. However, installation will be different, and the colour might need to be modded (although it'll work for a LTT fan, as it has orange accents)

i would recommend the D15.

It's not hard to install, but it's a BIG cooler.

I actually have to push the front fan up a little bit to compensate for my Corsair LPX DIMMs, and they are low profile as is.

However, I keep my fans on a silent profile, and even then I can never hear them.

With my Ryzen 7 1700, under a benchmarking load, I only hit around 71C~.

Typically it sits in the 50s unless I am hammering all of my cores.

With that said, I figure it can tame an i7 8700K at 5ghz no problem.

Just understand that it WILL take up a lot of space in your case.
