Huge windows folder

zaxo

First time i post a topic here, so sorry if this does not live up to the rules and demands.

I ran out of space on my main drive and started looking into cleaning a bit up and deleting unused programs when I stumbled upon the size of my windows folder.

It's huge, 86gb, so does anybody know how to clean it up because that can't be right?

My first place to look is at the WINDIR/WinSxS directory. This directory stores downloaded windows update packages and the space accumulates overtime. Use the built-in disk cleaner's 'Advanced' function to reduce the size.

Run a tool like Treesize Free and see where the space has really gone. Hidden files aren't listed or counted by explorer by the way.

I bet its the hibernation file. Disable hibernation or just delete that file.
