Two of the Same RAM sticks running at different speeds

BagelBeagle

Hello,
I bought a 16GB Kit of the Corsair Vengeance LPX 3000 Mhz RAM for my Ryzen 1700x build. I have the MSI X370 Gaming Plus motherboard. When I check the BIOS, I see that one of my RAM sticks is running at 2800 Mhz while the other is detected running at the advertised 3000 Mhz speed. The BIOS is up to date and all the drivers have been installed from the MSI website. Does anyone know why this is happening? The timings are 15-17-17-35 at 1.35V.

Note: I was able to get my RAM running at 2933 Mhz with no issues before I reinstalled Windows. However after reinstalling windows ( to resolve issues with crashing during game play) , I can't get it past 2800 Mhz. I don't have an issue running at slightly lower than advertised speed due to Ryzen and RAM compatibility issues, however it's very strange one of my ram sticks is at a different speed.

Thanks

yes strange , try swapping slots to see if its ram or board related.....clever

I don't think that's even possible. I mean the memory controller can't run at 2 speeds at once.

I would install CPU-Z and check ram speeds there.

I've tried swapping the two ram sticks and no luck. I haven't tried putting them in different channels though, however i don't think that'll work either.

look its simple

test 1

ram slot 1 running 2800

ram slot 2 running 3000

test 2 ....swap ram slots

if result same as test 1 then mobo

if result different eg (ram slot1 =3000,ram slot2=2800) the ram issue

ipso facto

it might be a mobo issue. It looks like CPU z is reading the ram speeds correctly.

that sez running at 2800mhz ....2x 1399.7

try manual settings for ram in bios....use xmp2998 settings(but don't use auto) and 1.35v

OP, what did you set under XMP profile? try setting 2933 or even 3066Mhz... just be warned you MAY need to clear CMOS if it doesn't take... so learn how to do that if you don't already know.
