You will usually upgrade it once every 2 years or so until it becomes impractical or the CPU/Motherboard need an upgrade in which point you'll have to change both of them and maybe the memory if that's the case. But if you build a new one from scratch that should only be because the one that you currently have is totally incapable of holding up with what you are using it for and there is no other option. Also, the way I see it, building a new PC from scratch every 5 years or so is just a waste of money ( a pc that you upgrade from time to time should last you ~10 years).

I would go for 5 years in this poll, for that is how I do my builds... but then it usually goes like "when the old doesn't have enough power to do what I want to do" ... so the last machines before the latest upgrade were in use for 8 years.

Main System:
