OK, try another media player like MPC-HC  https://mpc-hc.org/downloads/

I am guessing it might be a codec thing, but usually VLC is pretty good IIRC, I haven't used it in a long while as I prefer MPC-HC if anything on my desktop.

+1 for MPC-HC. I don't prefer VLC as it's color quality is garbage and have a light white tint on video.

This would be my suggestion as well.  I guess it comes down to your priorities: do you really want to get this working in VLC, or do you don't care about the player and just want the video to work?

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Yeah, no problem... I just wanted to check that another player I know is VERY good with media support would play it too is all. But if you don't want to that's OK I guess, but other than re-installing VLC, and a newer version if you haven't checked too, is all I can think of.

What file format is it? and codec?

No it's very easy to use, just like VLC except even easier IMO, it has excellent support for codes etc too/

It's easy as pie. Lightweight. Same or better quality as Windows Media Player. No online thingy.

Use K-Lite Codec Mega. It includes MPC-HC. Been using it for years! Never regretted.

If you're not doing so already, I would give the nightly 3.0 build a try. Their 2.2.x branch has had some issues with hardware decode. I feep the nightly is mostly less broken than the official build, actually.
