Upgrade graphic card or system?

So I gamed at 3440x1440 at a friends, now I just gotta have it lol.

 

Let me start off with my system specs:

I7-2700k oc to 4.6ghz on air

8gb ram (had 16, 2 sticks died within months of each other)

2x evga gtx 970 sc 

 

I have a good deal on a 3440x1440 100hz gync monitor I'm picking up tomorrow... should I just grab a 1080ti to go with it, or should I be looking at upgrading the whole system (aka building a new one)?

 

I play alot of rpgs  (witcher 3, wildlands, shadow of mordor, ect).

depends on your current framerates. I would drop in 8 GB more of RAM, see what framerates you get from SLI, and check benchmarks for the 1080ti. I would see if you could get the same framerates from the two 970s, but a 1080ti will most likely be more powerful. Just keep OC-ing you CPU and youll do fine

id go with a 1070 or 1070ti honestly and use some of the money u save to upgrade ur rig overall

wait for next year to upgrade the rest if you feel the need, there will be new cpus from both amd and intel

amd's in the first quarter and intel's probably around the summer maybe

I would buy GTX 1070 Ti or GTX 1080 Ti.

It depends on how much money you have.

Personally card, but what you have is pretty balanced and would benefit either way.  The bright side is that you can sell two 970's and put it towards a 1070ti/1080 for not much loss.

I would try to hold out on the 970s until next gen and then grab the 2080. You’d probably also have more cash for a platform upgrade and be able to grab the higher core count CPUs coming. Your system may struggle for like a year but IMO the wait is worth it for the MASSIVE performance upgrade you’ll get with Icelake and Volta
