Posted November 27, 2017 You should definitely wait with GPU mining still going on most GPU's are very expensive and waiting a year or so to let it cool down and prices drop is a good idea. Right now my card sells for $60 more used than it did when I bought it new. While the GPU mining issue is slowing down it still has many cards above MSRP I have an Anet A8 as my project printer and a i3 MK3 for when I want things to work. I extrude my own filament and haven't saved a penny yet. If there's a GPU out there now that can do what you need it to and the price is right, buy. Whenever Volta does make an appearance (or, potentially, a Pascal refresh with Volta tabled until late 2018 or 2019), you'd be paying the early adopter premium plus, potentially, the mining premium. 6GB 1060 prices are down near reality right now. If you're buying this week, I'd say screw it and go for it, but if you're already willing to/must wait for a month, then I'd see what stuff NVIDIA is about to release. I doubt that AMD has any new video cards coming in the immediate future, so NVIDIA is your best bet. They were supposed to release a new generation in 2018. While we cannot be 100% sure in our predictions, and due to the release of the 1070ti and no leaks recently, I don't think an "early 2018" release is to be expected. Posted November 27, 2017 It all depends on what you need. Are you happy with the performance you are getting? If so then stay with what ya got. However, there will always be something new around the corner tech wise. Unless you know the new GPUs are about to launch then I would buy. Right now the mining craze is increasing the prices of mid to high end GPUS. Also a GTX 1080 Ti is overpriced at $750-800 and there is nothing from AMD to challenge it and decrease prices. Posted November 27, 2017 I go through this process every time I make a major purchase for my system. I think you're experiencing inverted buyer's remorse. Are you staying awake at night, endlessly calculating the cost/benefit of a new GC purchase? I debated picking up a new card to replace my SLI config for months and finally bought one this morning. I paid ~$100 more than MSRP for the card, too. But you know what, I waited a long time and I could have been enjoying that sweet performance bump for the last ~250 days, so that extra money is punishment for denying myself. My advice is to buy the card above the one you have your eye on. It'll pay off when the next release happens. Had I done that, I wouldn't have bought this generation. That is only a little bit above the $379 MSRP. The first 6 months after launch $400 and up were the "normal" GTX 1070 prices. They only got down to about $379 and lower right before the Ethereum mining craze hit. Not saying they are cheap, but it could be WAY worse.
