Can i5 8600k use full potential of 1070 or 1080 ?

Grigor

yes but what games are you playing?

Budget? Uses? Currency? Location? Operating System? Peripherals? Monitor? Use PCPartPicker wherever possible.

Lol check my specs.
i5-4670k. 1080ti.

I believe it is utilizing the GPU to its full potential. Im hitting expected FPS targets from online benchmarks anyway.
I do play in 4k however so the CPU isnt putting out many frames. If I was playing at 144hz the story would be different.

Of course there are always exceptions to the rule. CPU bound games do exist.

Gaming with: Asus GTX 1080ti Strix OC SLI @1950mhz & r7 2700x@4.2ghz / GSkill 3466mhz CL14 (1440p165hz)
Loitering with: Galaxy S8+

CPUs bottleneck refresh rate

GPUs bottleneck Resolution/Quality settings

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Your CPU is going to determine the max fps you can get in a game, it won't really change.

Your GPU can scale down the resolution to 480p low settings and still potentially run a game at 60fps or whatever if your CPU isn't bottlenecking you.

Like the guy above with an i5 and 1080ti, he's running at 4k 60hz so all he needs is for a CPU that can do 60hz gaming well

Not really because it makes way more sense to buy an i7 8700(non K) for a bit more than the i5 8600K so you get hyperthreading and it's not much slower per core.

Or get an R5 1600 and save a bit of cash and still be pretty solid for gaming.

sky is the limit...pick a GPU according to the resolution you render your games at...GTX 1070 for 1080p ultra settings...GTX 1080 and 1080ti for 1440p or 4K.

What resolution? I've got an i5-4460 and a GTX 1070 in one of my systems, at 4K, the 4460 isn't tapping out any time soon.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

it's literrally the next best CPU for gaming...so it's EPIC great if that's your question.

Get a GTX 1070 and the 8600K you'll have a good machine for at least 2 years...you'll want to upgrade GPU at least once before you buy a new CPU.

What is the budget for your PC and your country? Is that monitor only 1080p 60hz? Are you going to upgrade it?

if you tweak with the 8700 a bit it can be a better buy, but if you overclock the core i5 it'll perform better in most games...it depends...in the long run the 8700 is a better bet but the 8600K should last a good 4 years of happy gaming so long as you keep your GPU somewhat up to date.

at least until games can reliably leverage more than 8 CPU threads consistently...which should take some years still IMHO.
