4c/8t Bloomfield Xeon vs 3770k

EunSoo

Hey! So I can get a Xeon W3520 (Intel Ark Page) for free or I can get a 3770k for $45. I would also need to get a motherboard and ram but I may be able to get those from a friend (it'd be H61 so no overclocking). Use case would be Overwatch, Photoshop, Illustrator, PUBG and After Effects in that order. Not yet sure what gpu it'll be paired with. So what do you think?

H61 board + 3770k will still be cheaper than a decent x58 board (which isn't that great until you go with 32nm chips anyways, which can, most of the time at least, overclock to 4.2 GHz and far beyond (I have one binned e5640 that does 4.8 GHz stable (and 5.0 unstable) under air, the better 45nm stuff would stop being coolable at ~4.2 GHz, most top out around 3.9 with air as far as I can see)

x58 is only good if you can get decent board for under 90$ or already have one, and then only with the 6 core xeons (unless you are overclocking, then the 32nm xeons are also quite good)

Just saying... There is a reason these xeons are so damn cheap, and its the price of the boards (I've bought 10 e5640s for 17.50€ recently just to put things into perspective...)

Xeon e5649@4.4 GHz on Asus Rampage II Extreme or Gigabyte x58a-OC (whatever I feel like to set up at a time) , 6x4 GB Kingston HyperX 1600, Gainward GTX 670 Phantom, Samsung 840 Evo 240 GB, BeQuiet L8 530W

Xeon mother board will be $$$.

3770K is 22nm vs45mm (Xeon will be slower)

Only reason to get LGA1366 Xeon would be 6c/12t

If you can get the 3770K for $45 and the mobo from a friend cheap, then do it.
