Hey everyone, my first topic but I figured I would get some more input to deciding onmy next upgrade. Currently I have an i7 860 at 4.0Ghz with 16gb of ram and a 1070. gaming performance just isn't where I want it to be and i am looking to do an upgrade. I am torn between a 4770k that is on Craigslist locally for 400 OBO with a bad mobo. Or should I wait and upgrade to a 1600x? With the 4770k I would be able to keep the ram I currently have. Any input is gratly apreciated.

$400 is a bit steep for a 4770K, when you can get a 4790K new cheaper and you can still find nice Z97 boards on the cheap. This would be the best route for now as RAM is crazy expensive. That'll do you well until you have the money for a complete platform change.

I would wait for the 1600x, get the perfect setup you want, if you have the money don't treat it like you're on a budget with a bad mobo etc...

I should have clarified more. The 4770k, the mobo, a 780ti, 16 gb of ddr3 and a new Corsair 650w PSU

Quite frankly Coffee Lake or nothing at this point, you're coming from a first gen Core i7 to the 8th gen... huge jump you'll be more than pleased.

They are in stock, for $400, coffee lake is most certainly the best option.

I would get one except all the one I am finding are closer to $420 and the suggested price is $359. I do not want to pay roughly $60 over the suggested retail

Waiting for the i7 8700k is worth it though, it is the first time Intel brought 6 cores to mainstream and boy believe me these 2 extra cores makes hella lot of difference facing the i7 7700k, if you got Kaby Lake now you'd be "wasting" more money than by buying Coffee Lake at a higher price than the msrp.
