What is the best free editing software

Hi Guys I am looking to start a youtube channel but I have no idea what editing software I should use. I don't want to pay anything for it but I want to be able to do at least some basics such as time lapses with sound overlay and some simple transitions, captions, ect.. aka the basics, but nothing too fancy.

In case it makes a difference I am using 4k 30fps video shot on a Samsung s7 edge and audio recorded on a BTSKY BM-800 a low end condenser microphone

DaVinci Resolve is probably the best, i have had a good experience with Lightworks free too but its pretty limting in a way so just go for Resolve and be happy you are using one of the best options even paid considered

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

I've used HitFilm as well, it's pretty good. Can't remember if I've tried DaVinci Resolve though.

I'm looking for something that is pretty easy but that has a little room for growth as I learn more

Hitfilm Express is probably the best IMO, pretty similar to premiere but not hard to learn.

Lightworks is not as easy.

@tmcclelland455 Is everything laggy on a G3258?

1080p30 isn't that bad, but 1080p60 kinda pisses it off (using Premiere, either with shit pre-rendered or not). Resolve was making my graphics card piss itself so I couldn't actually get very familiar with it.

DaVinci Resolve 14 is really nice, professional, free, and seems to make better use of hardware than premier. Make sure you use the newest Resolve 14, it's way easier to use than 12.

gta5 gets like 25-50fps depending where i am lmao but i get 120-180fps on csgo and 55+fps on everything else i play (dirt series, assetto corsa, nfs, ksp etc) with medium-high settings depending on the game, i wanna overclock to 4.2ghz but i keep having stability issues at 4ghz so it's at 3.8

Just looking at your specs sheet I'm curious why you went with a 512gb ssd before upgrading either your cpu or gpu as those are both pretty low end parts
