Has anyone running an SLI setup updated to the Creator's Update yet?  I tried it this weekend and it bricked my SLI setup.  Device manager was reporting that one of my GPUs couldn't find enough resources to start and the other said it was trying to start a driver different than the one that posted.  Nvidia drivers would install, but report that my display was not connected to an Nvidia GPU.  Tried deleting all Nvidia drivers, but the GPUs seems to be malfunctioning even with the basic Microsoft Display Drivers.  I'm guessing this is more a hardware addressing level problem and either Windows is not cooperating with my mobo BIOS or my VBIOS is not cooperating with Windows anymore.

Thoughts?  Anyone else run into this?  I'm just gonna wait it out as long as I can until I upgrade.

Windows 10...still in beta!

@ShredBird Has that solved your problem ? I run SLI as well and i dont want to brick my SLI Config :D

No, I tried everything.  I tried uninstalling Nvidia driver, reinstalling, Microsoft basic driver, BIOS updates etc.  Don't worry, Window's rollback feature works well and I was back to the old build in no time.

Oh when looking at Win 10 without all the Nvidia driver problems I had, it is a really nice OS... even though... I miss Aero...

Frankly speaking I prefer a lot more Microsoft updating the win10 as they have been doing than rolling out win11 win12 win13 and milking users for the newer licenses as it used to be aside the hassle of reconfiguring and reinstalling every thing to be on the latest OS.

Fair enough, but that shit doesn't work in the real world, where stability is king and coding to a known base is the only thing that matters.

I do not enjoy playing beta tester, and given all the issues with Win10 (plus telemetry) they have all but assured me I'll never be a Win10 user.

What series GPU?

I'm running dual 980Ti and never had issues after the latest update.

According to his profile he has the GTX 970 in 2way SLI.

My experience has been pretty solid up until this point.  I'll have to give it another shot when I have some time to sit down and troubleshoot, but for now I just need my computer to work.

i just remember seeing derpy performance numbers, stuttering and so on from them. especially 970 SLI, but that was also at a time where the NVIDIA drivers were pretty shit for a while. just running DDU and installing latest probably fixes it

I don't see what SLI has to do with the issue. If he can't get the drivers installed, then that means SLI isn't even active. From the sounds of it, it almost seems Windows is having trouble parsing the hardware.

  • 4 weeks later...

This most recent update killed my OS entirely and I think it may be due to the SLI incompatibility issue. I'm running 2x 780 Ti's.

When windows restarted after the update I got a "Windows could not complete the installation..." error. I wasn't able to restore the previous build, or use any recovery tools. None of the methods suggested in any google searches were effective, and I couldn't use a usb installer to repair. I ended up having to perform a clean windows 10 install on my SSD. I had backups of everything thankfully.

Now that I have windows 10 working again, SLI is 100% broken. If I try to turn it on it crashes my computer. Not only that, but I get a black screen in safe mode. To get into safe mode I have to go into my bios and manually set my video output to intel integrated graphics, and use an HDMI cable. If I boot back into normal mode, I have to go back into the bios and set it back to the 780 ti, and remove the hdmi, or i get a black screen.

I've never had a windows update break a computer like this.

I talked to both Nvidia and Microsoft support on this issue.  They were both pretty helpful in trying to get my issue solved, but in the end the problem was with my UEFI/BIOS and how it interacts with the latest version of Windows 10.  Essentially, using the first slot on my motherboard alone correctly sets the PCIe mode to 3.0 x16.  However when I add the second card, it configures the second card at PCIe 3.0 x8 (which is correct), but it still tries to set the first slot to PCIe 3.0 x16 (it's supposed to set to x8).  Windows then thinks the device can't find enough free lanes to start.

I tried contacting my motherboard vendor (ASRock) to see if they could issue a UEFI update, but I still haven't heard back from them.  The being said, I ended up buying a 1080ti from a friend (he bought it and it didn't fit in his case right) and I'm back to a single card with no issues. I may still try to help ASRock solve the problem if they ever respond to me.

When you have your two cards installed, are you able to see both of them in Device Manager and are they reporting any errors?

are you using hb sli bridge??

I just went through this with nvidia and they were useless but I figured out my deal on sli surround and the 3rd card

and getting the chipset to install

I'm on Maxwell (GTX 970) so HB bridge doesn't apply to me, just standard bridge.  I couldn't even get my second card to operate independently without the bridge, so I could never even get to the step to enable SLI at all.
