SLI QUESTION - Do i need a new PSU ?
55 minutes ago, Ezsnow said:Hello, Noob here !
I'm currently with this Setup :
CPU : I7 6700k
GPU : MSI GTX 970
PSU : Corsair VS650
Mthbrd: MSI Z170A Gaming Pro Carbon
I just found a second-hand GTX 970 for cheap. I was wondering if my VS650 was enough to power two GTX 970 despite of the fact that i only have 2x 6+2pin PCIE connectors in it.
Do you think that i can buy some adapters (i will need 2x6pin adapters) and plug them without any issues ? Or do i really have to invest in a new PSU ? (If it's the case, do you know an affordable modular one ?)
Thanks for reading me
The VS650 is not a very good PSU. Although at least 650W is recommended for SLI 970s (which you shouldn't do as SLI 970s are just kinda "bleh" when you could sell both and get a 1070 Ti, but that's not what you asked about), your PSU is of pretty poor quality. Sell both cards, get a 1070Ti and a better PSU, and all will be well.
