Went from Core 2 Quad to a fourth gen i5 for my personal rig. It's seen more drives and GPU's than anything else. Things have pretty much kept pace as games are becoming more GPU-intensive while GPU's are becoming more powerful for the money. I'll likely stay on the i5 until Intel releases the 9600K, preferably as an octa-core, or the 9700K (which I hope they remove the damage limit for the tenth generation).

Ive got Ryzen 3. Gonna save for 1. Higher end Ryzen $s to go down, along with *fingers crossed* RAM prices. Also sell my horrible laptop i had before my build.  2. Buy Ryzen 7  with 8 more GB of ram. Possibly Replace my gtx 1060 or turn it into an sli.

I built my computer over 5 years ago.  I had to change graphics card because I bought a power color card.  Other then that I switch to a bigger SSD. I don't game anymore so it works for me and I will never buy a pre built again

Built my PC in late 2012, still going strong.

Along the way, I upgraded to an SSD, went from 8 to 16GB of RAM, got another HDD for storage, a nicer case (Phanteks Enthoo Pro B|) and some cosmetic changes. The latest upgrade was going from a GTX 680 to a 1070 this spring. Most noticable one as well!

I don't really plan on doing a completely new build at some point. If I ever feel that my CPU is outdated I will upgrade CPU+Mobo+RAM and go from there.

I've incrementally upgraded mine. 4->16gb ram. GTX460->GTX 970. i7-950->X5650.

Custom pinewood case, Corsair CX 600WRampage 3 Extreme, i7 980x (@4.2ghz) with ML240 Cooler MSI GTX 970, 24gb DDR3, 240gb OCZ Tr150 SSD + 2Tb Seagate Baracuda.

Advocate for used/older hardware. Also one of the resident petrol heads.
