Short ver.: I've heard somethings about flashing Vega 64 bios on Vega 56, but idk. And both Vega 64 and GTX 1080 performs almost the same, so what is the real advantages of one in comparison to the other (both software-wise and hardware-wise) for gaming and future-proof? Should I go with Vega 54 and flash bios (isn't that dangerous?) instead of those 2 other cards?

This comes down to budget, region, and upgrade cycle.

In the UK you can get a Vega cards at MRSP, so the Vega 56 is £389, Vega 64 is £469 and GTX 1080 £479.   if you want a 400 card, wait 2-3 weeks for the aftermarket cards Vega 56.  On the other hand if your budget stretches to 500, the GTX1080 is a solid buy, that said, Vega's texture fill rate and bandwidth is 50% greater than that on the 1080; considering the development cycle of AAA games, no recent release would have employed techniques to utilize this hardware, leading me to the conclusion that once the game industry catches up, Vega 56, and 64 will have aged significantly better and be ahead of the 1080

flashing bios is not too dangerous but you could get arrested for indecent exposure.

i am all for amd but i think the gtx1080 is better. i mean, look at their power consumptions.

on a final note, gtx1080, no discussion.

if you want to go with vega 56 level of perfs then look for gtx1070, 1070ti instead.

It depends.

Do power consumption really bothers you?

If not than I think that you should go with the RX Vega 64...since it's already at the 1080's level on DX11, and at Vulkan and DX12 it surpasses it, without even mentioning AMD FineWine...

You can also always UnderVolt the card...

Also from what I know both Vega cards has Dual bios, so you can flash the V64 BIOS onto the V56 card and if somehow something will go wrong - you can always go to the regular bios.

What about the Shadowplay vs Relive? AMD uses HEVC and Nvidia uses x264, stream-wise does it weight for AMD side (I mean, isn't hevc better than x264)? And what about AMD just having the stock cards, there's any problem with heat dissipation?

Yes AMD Reference card on Vega is a lot worse than nVidia Founders Edition by comparison, it is loud and hot. Shadowplay is easier and more reliable than Relive despite the encoding difference.

What? No.

ReLive is better than ShadowPlay in almost everything if not everything...from where did you get that? Did you even use ReLive that you say that?

All of the tech reviewers said that ReLive is better and I think that TPU also have a page about that and you can see there that ReLive hits less performance than ShadowPlay.

Also, it really depends on what you do...the reference isn't that loud, only if you try to squeeze everything from it with like maximum Voltage, but of you UnderVolt it (which is the best thing to do for Vega) it will heat even less and will be even more quite than before...

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/AMD/Radeon_RX_Vega_64/30.html

On PwrSaver mode RX Vega 64 is about 93-110% of the 1080's performance (depends on the game) while doing 40 dBA and 75C.

And with a good custom profile with a good Voltage and clocks you can achieve PwrSaver Temps and noise with normal clocks that will put it easily against the 1080...

Thanks let me know if I said something useful. Cheers!

Noise isn't a concern for me, I lived with a 70 dB (according to sound meter app) for like 9 years or so, because my PC cooler is noiser as heck. Sad life but true. :/

I'll stick with either Vega 56 or 64 if the aftermarket cooled ones have been released when I buy my build. Thanks you guysssss.

even if i said you should go with the gtx1080, i'm happy that you go with amd, i have a rx480 myself and i'm glad the competition gets some market shares as well.
