Hey guys I was hoping if you could help me upgrade my PC so I could get 1080p 60fps gaming on medium to High settings

My current build is

-AMD FX-4100

-MSI GT 630 4GB

-4GB of 1333mhz DDr3 Ram 2 sticks 8GB in total

-2 500GB HDD 7200 RPM ST500DM002-1BC142

-MSI 970A-G43 PLUS

I don't need any type of peripherals such as Monitor Mouse keyboard or a Wirless NIC

My budget is 400$ I have a great case and a 650w corsair psu so no need for an upgrade. Note I am fine if I blow a lot on the GPU and then when I have more  money I'll upgrade the MOBO so that i can get newer architecture for CPU and get DDR4 RAM

Thanks -Data

GTX 1070

look at ryzen 5 later, look into buying a ssd NOW

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

This,

Also look into overclocking your memory to 1600Mhz instead of 1333Mhz

yes, get an ssd, it really doesnt matter which one because the average user cant really distinguish a diference between most mainstream ones, just choose how much of a capacity you want, as for a graphics card i think a gtx 1070 is a bit overkill, get an evga superclocked 1060 3gb or 6gb depending on your budget.

The SSD won't help really.

If your chipset is dying, the last thing you'd want to do is try to overclock anything, that's just begging for trouble.

Your CPU is nearing on 7 years old. A better video card will certainly help, but if the chipset is going south, then the motherboard isn't far behind, so I'd put your money towards fixing that part first...

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

i guess maybe getting a motherboard and cpu would be priority, i'd suggest an asus prime b350 plus, and a ryzen 3 1200 for now which have a good upgrade path of their own.

Thanks for the reply. i have looked upon the FX series since i have a AM3+ socket but the very latest ones are known to be very hot and not worth it such as the Fx-9590, the GPU ive been eyeing at the EVGA GTX 1060 SSC 3GB model since i wont be needing a 1070 ti or non ti. Thanks -Data

I've been thinking about that also but it comes to mind that if i get a GPU then i can put that into a future build, if i get a ryzen 3 then i need a new mobo and DDR4 RAM thus increasing my CPU power but not letting me game

Yes but you fry the whole system due to a bad motherboard...where does that leave you?

1. GTX 1050 Ti (~$130)

2. 250GB SSD (~$80)

3. R5 1400, B350 mobo and 16GB DDR4 picked up over time as deals and/or used parts appear

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

Huh? A bad motherboard is not likely to take the whole system with it. Power supplies will do that, but the OP has a (presumably, might be a VS) Corsair.

If I were in OP's shoes I'd pounce on a well-priced (maybe factory overclocked) GTX 1060 6GB and save the rest of the money for the CPU/Mobo/RAM overhaul that is due for that system as we know what a CPU weakness that FX-4100 poses for his desire to play GTA well (CSGO probs won't care much).  Alternatively if future money is real tight it may be a good alternative option if you found a good gently-used deal on an RX 470/480/570/580 such as used or "gently mined on."  I don't mean to spin off an entire debate on "should you buy a Polaris that was mined on" but if the price is right, and the card runs, it'd still be in the range of the 1060 performance-wise, plus have free-sync options down the line for CSGO and such.

The SSD and CPU upgrade should come when budget allows, I agree with what everyone's said about the SSD, just get a size that works for you (at minimum it should fit Windows and a couple games you'd like premium loading times in).  If you're lucky maybe when it comes time to buy a new CPU/Mobo package the non-Z370 mobos will be out for coffee lake as that may offer more long-term value than Ryzen 5 (getting a board cheaper than Z370 and pairing with a nice quad or six-core Coffee Lake should offer a system that may age-out better than Ryzen as you get much higher IPC and equal or better multi-core performance per $).

also that used gtx 780 is very close to the gtx 1060 3gb

That's not even remotely true.  It crushes a 780 (and 780 Ti).
