1070 Ti .. why?

Really dont understand this....a few $$ more and you get a 1080....Nvidia just blowin through stock before new release? Thats fine, drop the price of a 1070 please?...The Ti always makes no sense...

The Ti version usually always makes more sense. 980ti performs better then Titan X when OCed for significantly less. Same thing with the 1080ti. Titan XP is stupid expensive and the 1080ti, while expensive, is much better for the price

A few possibilities:

  1. Put a nail in Vega's coffin by killing the Vega 56 value prop once and for all
  2. Throw a shiny "new" product out there just before the holiday season gets going
  3. Make a quick buck off of what would otherwise be used for lower-margin OEM GPUs
  4. Dump a pile of 1080 GPUs that were binned as extremely low performers, not able to meet spec

I tend to think it was a combination of all of them. NVIDIA was sitting on a pile of 1080 silicon that didn't meet performance standards, so when AMD inadvertently created a market for it by releasing a card that split the 1070 and 1080, NVIDIA was more than happy to put consumer packaging on what would almost certainly otherwise have been sold to prebuilt manufacturers as OEM cards.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
