Posted October 31, 2017 So I might be coming into some money in a bit and i really wanna upgrade my PC soon because I'm still running Ivy bridge and it's starting to show it's age. I can't seem to find 8700K's anywhere. I know availability is short so I'm wondering if I should just skip the 8th gen CPUs and go for a 9th gen instead. What do you think? Posted October 31, 2017 That's like, another full year from now. The 8700s will likely be back in stock sometime in early 2018. 9th will be around 2019 or 2020 (Someone with more knowledge could correct if I am wrong.) So, no. I would just either go Ryzen, or wait until the 8700s are back in stock. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ AX1600i owner. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1_GMev0EwK37J3zZL98zIqF-OSBuHlFEHmrc_SPuYsjs/edit?usp=sharing My WIP Power Supply Guide. I'm sure Ryzen 2 will be faster than Ryzen but I don't think it will be that close to intels current gen offerings. Infinity fabric (as cool as it is) still has some problems that I don't think will be ironed out for a few more generations. I would love to see where AMD takes the next Ryzen chips but I don't think they will be good enough to switch intel users over to AMD. Posted October 31, 2017 Completely up to you. I'm satisfied with the performance of my 4690K and 1080, so I'll likely wait to see how games do with the hexa-cores. If engines don't fully utilize six cores or it seems that they're using them to the fullest, I'll hold off for the octa-cores and just use my 4790K. If the hexa-cores pull away from my 4690K and 4790K, I'll go with the hexa-core i5 or i7 depending on board designs and average overclocks between the two. Well even if game engines don't use the extra threads or not it still gives you better fps because background tasks and windows can run on other threads while the game is executing. The fps gain might not be as much as if the game was actually utilizing the extra threads but it still helps. min fps will likely see a good bump. 21 hours ago, QuantumElement said: Not that crazy. I think they are like Haswell IPC right now and Intel is just going to throw money at their product the second AMD starts to catch up. I think they will forever be 2nd place and not as close a 2nd place as we'd all like.
