GTX R9 990X Ti Boost Ghz Edition.

Ok these naming schemes are starting to get on my nerves, as if it's not enough to memorize the numbering schemes of both Nvidia and AMD now we have to worry about stupid prefixes like GTX & R# and then suffixes like X, Ti, boost and Ghz what the hell !

And it's not just Nvidia or AMD, while both have a long list of prefixes and suffixes Intel's naming scheme on the CPU side is even more confusing and AMD's CPU naming scheme isn't that much better.

When is this non sense going to stop ?

I mean what is the actual difference between an i5 4440 or a 4430 ? or what the hell does it mean when they add an S at the end of a name or even a T.
Then we have CPUs like the i7 4771 or a 4950HQ which is actually SLOWER than a 4930K.

The naming schemes are a good way to tell what's best, or better, or bad.

It's not hard...

Really ? ok which is faster a GTX 480 or a GTX 570 ? how about a 5970 vs a 6950 ? or even a GTX 760 and a 660 Ti.

It's impossible to tell by the name.

Comparing different gens, remove the differnce in generation from the primary power number.

They are equal. The 6950. And the GTX 760.

Also, your title reminded me of this:

You just proved his point, the 5970 is faster than the 6950 since the 5970 is actually a dual GPU flagship card it's also actually a lot faster than even a 6970, and a 5870 is faster than a 6870 and so is a 5850 compared to a 6850.

I had recommended to a friend a 650 Ti boost and he went and bought a 650 Ti thinking it was the same thing.

The naming schemes can be quite confusing sometimes and it's going to be very difficult to simplify them due to the sheer number of products that companies release each year.

The naming schemes aren't very hard at all to be honest.

It isn't that bad...

AMD Radeon R9 290x (Or AMD Radeion Rx xx0[x], AMD Radeon xxxx [Ghz])

Nvidia GTX 780 Ti (Or Nvidia GTX xxx [Ti])

AMD FX 9590 (Or AMD FX xxxx, AMD Axx-xxxx[k])

Intel i7 4930k (Or Intel ix xxxx[k])

By far the AMD graphics is the most complicated, but they are all almost the same.

It is really not that had with gpus, ignore the prefix, they are pointless. if it has a suffix it is better than the same number without a suffix, easy.

They server their purpose of giving you as much info as possible without looking at the specs. Ie a i5 will be a quad core and it has a k so you know you can overclock it. It's just about knowing what they stand for.

Nvidia's works as the just replaced the 5 in years past with the ti. I assume they found marketing wise tge ti was better?

As for the amd gpu naming scheme its quite close to the naming intel has for its cpu's.

Most of the models for intel cpus you wont find retail their memt for oem. Now stuff like 4440 vs 4430 is just a slight clock difference and even if its cents a processor or the oem will still be making more money in the end. As for the T, S, R, K, X etc those dictate its tdp, socket style, what kind of integrated gpu it has. Its fairly easy to find a guide to the on intel's site or when new processor lines come out there is always at least one review that goes over it. This wqs especially the case when R came out with haswell.

I forget whats different about the 4771 but it has a slight difference and probably costs more. The feature they added they probably thought most peoole who got a 4770 wouldnt use. As for the 4950HQ im pretty sure thats a laptop part and the your missing the M somewhere as I dont think HQ has ever been used on a desktop part.

I thought someone somehow Frankenstein'd together a GTX 780 Ti and an R9 290X together. That would have been interesting and all sorts of unstable.
