How many USB 3.0 ports do you need? With 4 on the back (+3.1, + type C), there are apparently two headers on the mobo so you can have another 4 on the front or top of whatever case... just how many high speed devices are you needing to connect at the same time? There are also a bunch of 2.0 you can use for less critical stuff.

Install the OS on the sd card so you can use the drives purely for useful tasks perhaps?

According to Anandtech, the MicroSD slot can be used for light weight based systems. This is similar to what Asus did back in the days of P35 and P45. The boards has a feature called Express Gate, which is a light weight based linux distro, running off the built in onboard flash drive. Cheaper board don't have the onboard flash drive, so it runs off your HDD.

prob a microsd card slot that can be used for some sort of hypervisior, though an actual usb port would have been nice too.

Vega nano might be a thing, but for now it isn't and afaik 1080's or 1080ti's aren't available in such a small size with a waterblock. Could be wrong about that tho, too lazy to check
