xeon x5650 vs fx 8350

wildgg

hey LTT

my mate has a fx 8350 with a shitty mobo that doesn't overclock what so ever.

he does mostly gaming like Fifa 18, csgo, GTA V and PUBG.

he currently has a gtx 960 with his setup.

he can run all his games but csgo and pubg are a struggle and when i see benchmarks of these xeon's they get way more fps.

for the question: i have ram and a x58 mobo laying around would a xeon x5650 improve his gaming experience?

because i watch Tech yes city on youtube and he used allot of xeon cpu's before and they seem really good.

thx in advance.

he doesn't have a budget.

i have some extra parts laying around and i was wondering if a x5650 would improve things

It would. And that's nice of you to do, if I may add.

I had an x5650 before my old PSU died, I got it to a stable 4GHz using an AIO, and was a great system, multithreaded, was able to get similar scores in CB to 4790k.

X58 is still desireable today, as it has triple channel RAM, and cheap XEONs available

5650 should be faster at stock, but it all really depends on how far you can overclock them

I am not very familiar with the fx series but as far as x58 goes you cant really go wrong. They preform great, they are reliable, and they are awesome for overclocking

I have posted videos of my 5680 and GTX 960 playing GTAV and maybe PUBG.  I may have messed up the video and had FPS locked at 30 though. I can run some benchmarks tonight at 4ghz and post them up. The 5650 at 4ghz should be identical I would think.

The X5650 is a little bit faster out of the box by about 10%, but once you overclock both CPU's the X5650 can gain around +20% over the AMD FX in single-threaded performance and +40% in multi-threaded performance, it's a noticeable improvement and will help him get better performance in games, although i wouldn't pair a really high-end GPU with this type of CPU's unless you game at higher than 1080p resolution:

I have an X5675, because the base clock is better than the X5650. But I do have one, I just haven't used it yet. Though if you can OC it'll be the same as any X56xx 6c/12t Xeon when OCed.

My 5675 is sitting at 4.1Ghz on air staying under 60c. old but still a decent piece if you already have it. Cinebench score of 888 compared to 767 with my 4.5ghz 4820k
