Ubuntu 17.04 not booting on Ryzen 1700

So I tried to boot my Ryzen system off a live USB with Ubuntu 17.04 and It failed spectacularly, image attached showing the screen with some funky broken text. Anyone else had this issue? seen a few Ubuntu stability issues on Ryzen but nothing going wrong pre-installation of the OS. NOTE: boot drive is known go, booted my laptop successfully from it after the desktop failed.

Could it be an issue with the graphics hardware?

Main System: Phobos

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

The pc runs Windows 10 daily with no issue so I don't think its a GPU issue

How long do you wait? 

When I booted Ubuntu 14.04 on my old atom netbook it would always do that and then run perfectly fine.

As Ryzen is pretty new maybe try Ubuntu 17.10 which has a newer kernel?

Tried the 17.10 beta and that solved it! Hadn't realised 17.10 was out yet.
