Is Noctua NH U12S good enough for i7-8700K when you overclock it?

TristanK

Hi, I am probably going to buy into coffe lake platform with i7-8700K on  ASUS TUF Z370-PLUS. However I already have the NH U12S with 2 NF F12 fans in push pull config. They are handling the i7-4771 just fine but coffe lake I hear is a bit hotter. So would this cooler still be good enough for this cpu or should I think about replacing it?

You could use it the temps would be in high 80 to 90s i would recommend to get a cheap all in one water cooler

I really would rather have an air cooler. Can you recommend any alternative air cooler that s good enough? Preferably in black because I kind of dislike the current cooler because of those shit color fans, even though the cooler works like a charm

I dont know where youre going to find a watercooler that's less that $60 USD that cools better then this guy.

It will be okay if you dont OC really hard. If you do, you'll have to turn the fans up pretty high

What do you think about the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 3. Would that be much better? or would be quiet! Dark Rock 3 be enough?

I prefer the Pro 3. At this point though the problem will be the thermal non-conductor underneath the lid.

This cooler would definitely be better, as it's more like the NH-D15 but in black. You'd be able to OC much harder with that cooler, and it's comparable to a 240/280mm AIO

Jeah. I really dont want any watercooling. I like the looks of big beefy coolers a lot more than water coolers and they are actually quieter than waterpumps and easier to manage when service is due. :)

Just to throw one more in, Cryorig R1 Ultimate

Any one of these three beefy coolers will do you well, will be fairly silent and look good!

it'll be fine, honestly. just don't overclock it too hard.

or better yet, delid it and get a watercooler. from the benchmarks ive seen, the temperatures reduce by 10-20c.
