advertised read speeds on the 960 series is higher , but that doesn't really matter because :

-We don't know capacities which the 900p was benchmarked with

-Unless you're transferring large files around , it doesn't make a difference to responsiveness. what does matter is the considerably higher IOPS of this drive the the 960 pro , assuming we see them in real world testing.

Yes they will most likely affect gaming performance and will definitely affect responsiveness.

So will these work with the AMD X399 platform, or does it only work with Intel X299, Z370, et al? If so, I'm considering the U.2 option over the PCIe AIC SKU since you can place it anywhere else instead of a static position like the AICs or M.2 devices.

 

Obviously these Optane 900p PCI Express drives are really cool in terms of performance since it used 3D XPoint technology.

These Optane drives are going to be so fast that things like the OS scheduler latency are going to become bottlenecks, stuff that normally doesn't matter.

 

EDIT: Another benefit is that Optane drives are like the fucking terminators of serving data.  You can saturate them with tons of traffic and they'll have the same responsiveness (it's called something like 99.9% latency).  NAND NVME drives start getting really laggy when they get saturated with traffic.

Off topic but, You should talk to Intel about marketing as using a terminator would be awesome since their skull head that they use looks a lot like the terminator.
