What to look for when shopping for a Microwave?

Cyberspirit

This might not belong on a tech forum like this but new Microwaves have so many setting and stuff they honestly just confuse me.

The one we have now is extremely old and it's barely working so i want to replace it asap.

What i'm looking for is something simple. You set the time and it works. Extra features are nice and all but easy use is what really matters.

As for budget i don't really want to spend more than 50,000 HUF OR 187,85 USD.

big enough to fit the biggest thing you may want in the microwave, energy efficiency, and then check reviews for what you can find. Haven't seen a simple microwave on store shelves in years...

You can buy any microwave for that price and it will be perfectly fine.

What are you trying to do with it, make a microwave ray gun?

The size and power consumption (though, to be honest, it will be idle most of the time and it's generally not used for long periods). Check reviews before you buy one. If it has a load of issues, it's best to avoid it.

Most of the "features" on things like microwaves are just nonsense and marketing. Things like talking to you when it's done is just pointless.

$190 is a lot for a microwave. I'd personally look at no more than $100 or so.

Yeah i usually just stand there or prepare other things wile it's running. Don't really use it for longer than a minute or so anyways.

Agree, in fact I'd say around the $60 mark or so for a bog standard microwave, 800/850Watts is enough. So just need to get the correct size to fit the foods/plates etc you want to use in it.

So long as it has good reviews, has a few buttons for warming, popcorn, etc. and fits in the space you need it to, then it should be plenty. Nothing more than $100 should be needed :)

Eh? There's stuff to look up for when shopping for a microwave?
I just took the cheapest one I saw at Walmart (Some Danby branded one) and it does the job perfectly fine. It's a small 700W Microwave, perfect if you don't have a dedicated wall outlet on its own breaker for microwaves only.

It's a microwave, it's not exactly cutting edge tech.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x / GPU: Asus Radeon RX 6750XT OC 12GB / RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB DDR4-3200

We recently got a new microwave. It's got this really convenient feature called "express cook" that doesn't let you accidentally cook something for a non-integer number of minutes. Because even if you thought that was what you wanted to do, you're mistaken.

... So yeah, there are things to avoid. I don't know what to tell you to avoid, though, as express cook seems to normally be a choice, but apparently not always. They were obviously thinking you'd rely on the sensor to do its job, which it does exactly as well as you'd expect a simple vapor sensor to do when it comes to infinitely variable food.

Isn't it amazing that we can say that about a box that can cook food in a couple minutes without even exposing it to heat?
