If anyone using AMD FX 8 core CPU (specially AMD FX 8120) please let me know which PSU and motherboard you guys using.

YOu would do much better with a G4560, i3-8100, or Ryzen 3 CPU versus that by-gone era of releases.

Just finding someone who have 8 core amd  CPU + 4pin atx power connector mobo ....... Want to know are they facing same prob like me.

 

As u can see mine previous post that my motherboard 4 pin atx power got burned and everyone recommend me to get 8 pin atx power mobo which is hard to find + which are available very high in price

If im understanding you correctly, you bricked your motherboard (probably a cheap AM3+ board) using the FX 8120? This makes sense if you are using cheap motherboard the FX 8xxx chips are 125w chips that demand alot of power especially overclocked. I would recommend you getting a 990X / 990FX chipset motherboard. However I would be remissed if I didnt say before spending X amount on a new motherboard for your OLD cpu consider a platform move to Ryzen or Skylake/Kabylake/Coffeelake. They are the most modern revisions of AMD and Intels CPU architecture.

And yes. You want to keep the VRM cool if you got inferior board because the CPU drinks power and many lesser boards cant handle the power going in the CPU with cheap VRM design.

 

But you said your 4-pin got destroyed? Which PSU was that?

M5A97 R2.0 saying 140w CPU support will that work ?

 

I don't want to invest that much in this old PC

Buy it with your own risk, these boards while yes technically can support the power draw needed, your basically asking for the motherboard to die on you at some point since you are pushing it to its max basically.

I don't think that PSU prob as bcoz first time when that thing burned I had CM GXII 650w it was on warranty they replaced it with CM Storm Edition GX 650w as bcoz GXII discontinued

My hope is high on this mobo as bcoz this mobo got 8 pin atx it will distribute some power and heatsink on vrm. Something then nothing atleast

I upgraded to Ryzen, and have my old Mobo in a static bag with I believe  the original box. It's a Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P. Make me a reasonable donation plus shipping and it's yours.

The ASUS M5A97 R2.0 uses a 4+2 passively cooled VRM design.

It will run a FX-8120 without too many issues -- even with a mild/mid level overclock.

 

• 4+2 power phase design
• Low RDS(on) components
• 2-transistor, 2-driver configuration for the phases
• built-in VRM protection

Only minor down-side is it not using Digi VRMs...and not 6+2 or 8+2 (you can't ask for too much for a sub $100 board).

If your old power supply didn't kill anything else when it died, you should be okay.

4-pin CPU connection is a litle bit on low side, as the FX 8-cores can draw quite a bit of power / current.

A motherboard with an 8-pin CPU connection would be the most ideal.

 

To answer you question, yes, I do have a FX-8350...but on a ASUS Crosshair V Formula 990FX motherboard...

Your ASUS M5A97 R2.0 and my Crosshiar V Formula are on opposite sides of each other.

I have a 850W PSU paired with the system, but because I was running 2 or 3 video cards with it.

 

If you are running only 1 video card, with a few SSD/HDD, and some case fans, a good quality 500W ~ 550W should be more thane enough.

Depends on what video card you have, something lower might be okay as well (e.g. 450W).

Necro posting here... but if it helps, I am running my FX-8370 on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD7 Mobo and it is not starving power... This Motherboard is a beast.

I am looking for another one to put my  cores 1100t back to work but the sale price is much higher then when I bought it in 2012 !
