Don't quote me as I have No official information on this but if I had to guess on a company structuring;

LMG is a Group Company hence the naming. Each YouTube channel is separate but controlled by it's Parent LMG. Just so happens to be all in-house for now.

Linus Media Group (   TechQuickie

                      FloatPlane

A decent example of this is Google, its parent company is Alphabet., there are many companies like this to use as an example.

If FloatPlane is spinning off as its own entity entirely well then obviously my little diagram above has zero relevance... lol

When Linus and Luke are ready they will announce it to the world.

Expect plenty of Teasers until then :D

I am not saying this as a Mod or anything just personal thoughts on the situation ....  <----- Disclaimer!!

LMG is video channel brands only.

fpm will be entirely separate.

Ah, quite interesting. Thanks for the info.

As a business owner and Board Member of another company myself I am quite curious about a few things but I wont ask here (not really for me to know).

I look forward to how this progress' in the long term.

AAH. Thought it was spelling errors. Canadia I really don't know, Is it an ancient town on the bottom of the ocean? You'll have to find out, and I sure would appreciate if you told me when u find out!!

No, that's Atlantis. Canadia is a country that resides in Antarctica. It is mostly home to hostile indigenous people upon it's discovery in the early 1900s, but the natives were easily tamed and were found to be possessed of startling intellect.

Some Canadia natives have moved to other places such as the Americas (including Canada), often being extremely successful in their pursuits than the actual citizens of these countries. Unfortunately, sense of style can be seen as lacking, due both to the much colder climates of their former homeland, and being away from industrialized civilization. As a result, you see oddities such as the infamous socks and sandals combo.

Flostplane Media is going to be a separate company with Luke as the Chief Operating Officer.

That transition is currently in progress. He has a space in the existing LMG office out of convenience because leasing something for them elsewhere would be an expensive hassle and we have the room for now.

But the intention is definitely to have FPM separate from LMG sooner rather than later.

I don't think Luke intends to abandon WAN  show anytime soon, but most of the daily content has been off his plate for months now.

I have no comment on the share structure of either company.

Are you going to be CEO for both companies?

makes sense, and if the above is correct I'm sure they'll stay under LMG just won't actively identify with it. good post :)

That said, makes me sad luke did some really good content, I might have to go to Floatplane (Even though I have no idea what they do) to enjoy some videos again, sadly LTT has gotten way to click bait with Meh content for me personally.

Linus said that FloatPlane Media is going to be a separate thing. And I'm guessing it won't house only LMG prerelease videos

Where the hell did that come from, was it a joke because none of that is true

So why don't you put 'by Linus Media Group' in the logo? like this...

It would make it easier for people to identify which 'parent' company actually developed it (I think anyway)

We are keeping it separately intentionally. We don't want people to see it and be like "oh it's just tech"

A complete youtube competitor for established channels? neat.

oooh I got a great idea for the video platform

Every year or so, take user's feedback about what they like and don't like about the interface, and fucking ignore it. Move stuff into submenus for the video player because fuck people with trackpads amirite, make the sight harder to navigate, fuck up the comments, take features away like 'view all comments', make a generally shittier experience for the users, and keep the change becuase you spent man hours changing it. Repeat.

Just like youtube.

Hire me.

Seriously I would love nothing more than to read user feedback and have the final decision over the designers for a major platform. I would force them to break it visually to make it more usable. Fuck flat design, as good as it looks.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

AHAHAHA.

I know how you feel man.. We know we can't make everyone happy, but we will take user feedback very seriously at fpm just like we do at LMG.

I have a secret technique for making a busy interface clear and easy to navigate, long forgotten and cast aside in favor of modern design, no one brave enough to reintroduce this ancient technique to the modern internet.

Take this, you'll know when the time is right to use it

So Canadians should be from Canadia then, right?

@LinusTech

It's not going to be like youtube, Floatplane is for people transitioning from, so as to say, "unstable" sites like youtube. It has to do with the fact that, if floatplane didn't exist of course, youtube would be able to KILL LMG and every other youtuber. So:
Step 1: Make a youtube channel

Step 2: Make it grow

Step 3: Make it grow larger

Step 4: Make it grow to about half the size of LTT

Step 5: Make it your primary source of income

Step 6: Make it look like you're worried about losing your primary source of income

Step 7: Go around the world and murder anyone who was on the waiting list to join floatplane

Step 8: Go to Canadia, learn the language of the Canadans and then beg Linus to let you join floatplane

Step 9: Ignore everything above and get Linus an exclusive ticket to a hockey match

Alternative Step 9: Steal the latest prototypes of anything from intel, amd and nvidia then ship them to me so I can sell them for a lot of money

Step 10: Do the non-alternative step 9

There you go, you're on floatplane!

Hope that helped!

(this started of serious then I started joking. The first paragraph thing is true)
