What made you become a fanboy?

The general business practices of some companies turn me away. But not to the point where I'll actually make compromises by choosing a brand. 

Amd vs nvidia is a good example. I'll generally pick the amd gpu over the geforce card if they are fairly well matched and deliver similar value. However, i won't shoot myself in the foot by getting vega instead of a 1080ti. Imo, it's ok to have a preference, as long as you're not actively hurting yourself in the process.

I'm not sure I would say I'm a fanboy but I was ready to pull the trigger on my first HEDT build and during the planning I heard some rumbling about Ryzen but at the time I did not know what any of it meant so I planned my build around Broadwell E 6950x and then the pricing rumors started and when i realized that I was about to pay over 3 times what the R7 1800x was Intel lost my money for the simple fact that price gouging because of lack of competition it not justifiable in my book, I will keep my eye on things to see how the new SKU's pan out but as of now I'll support AMD!

My need to always be the opposite of everyone.

The people who introduced me to PC components were Intel and Nvidia fan(boys) and that kinda made me interested in the opposite.

Of course I'm rational in the choices I make, but if possible I would rather get AMD. This is also why my current PC uses an AMD GPU and CPU.

 

Of course it's not all good, I am not happy about the entire Vega situation.. and I hate how all the AMD video cards are sold out because mining... But whatever.

Disappointed with Ryzen sub-par single-threaded performance being around sandy bridge, FX performance from 8320, AMD drivers giving me issues in games. Switched to a 7700K and 980 Ti and never looked back at AMD. Just performance in general, Ryzen works fine for some people but not for me. I prefer single-threaded performance, and that led me to get an 7700K over 1700.

When i choose a product, I usually take a look at the power consumption and heat output. I also kinda look at price to performance, but that’s not the most important thing for me. Right now I would prefer Ryzen over Coffee Lake, just because the i7 8700K is imo overpriced. You can also only take a Z370 mobo, which can be really expensive as well.

I don't fanboy. I buy the better performance/price product. 

Now yes, that does mean that I have a dislike for companies such as apple, but I definitely won't choose one company over another just because I've bought from the before/ a lot.
