hmm exchange it to a EVGA SR-2 maybe. That would be porn?.

Also that´s a pretty sweet overclock at that voltage above in the Cinebench run.

What are your uncore and ram settings? Cause i think you can increase that score a bit higher by change uncore to around 3600 MHz (on your asus board its called ULCK) and maybe set memory as high as possible.

I have my I7 980X oc to 4.4 GHz uncore set to 3700 MHz and memory at 1400 MHz. That gives me a CB R15 score of 1027. 100 MHz less than you on cores and a 4.75 GHz, uncore at 3990 MHz and memory still at 1400 MHz i score 1103.

Thanks! The color scheme is pretty damn on point, and Ek-ZMT tubing is just clean af. Needs a few finishing touches to be a bit cleaner, but it does look really nice. Happy the mobo isn't one of the new bright ones or the older Classy's (my X58 ones are red/black, this only has the red EVGA logo on the one heatsink). It does have the aluminum swoopy heatsink though, instead of the proper finned ones. But according to HWmonitor the VRMs aren't hitting over 75C so they should be fine. Can throw a 40mm Noctua on them at some point, but that'd mess with my color scheme.

Not really. Gotta get it set up then, need to figure out some proper CPU cooler mounts (mounting is weird on the SR-2 due to the stock backplates being made for server coolers). Last I had them running, one worked with two CPUs but the second RAM bank wasn't recognized, need to re-test that to make sure it's not the CPUs or RAM or one of the bazillion switches on the board. The seller ran it fine with two quad cores so the board should be bueno. Second one was bought broken for $99, it will boot with one CPU though. If I ever have the free money and one of the boards is working 100% I'll get a case and build a custom loop, I do have the VRM/chipset blocks already. For now I have a motherboard tray and a board of plywood, lol.

Tell me about it. Cost just as much as a new motherboard. It´s madness how X58 boards still holding prices after over 10 years.

Just the board i have ASUS P6X58D Premium cost just as much as a cheaper new board on ebay. While you can get CPU´s nearly thrown at you, boards cost a crap toon of money.

Just check, even my old i7 980X can still give a pretty penny on ebay.

How can over 10 year old hardware still cost so much, Its madness.

Also for those that might want to have a last look at my old junk. can se it here. Cause in the coming months it will be taken a part and temporary replaced by a AMD Ryzen 9 3950X with motherboard. Its only temporary until I can afford a case and some other stuff to my new main rig after I get 3950X. When that is done. X58 will be up and running again as a mix of backup, retro gamer and guest gamer pc.

Well i replaced all fans last year, as the old once where worn out after nearly 10 years of use.

Not all fans are from Noctua. On cpu its Noctua industrial IPPC fan 3000 RPM models and the 60 MM are more the comon models.

The two fans on chipset is from noiseblocker.

The rest of the case fans are Corsair ML 120/140 MM.

But yeah it whas not a cheap upgrade. But i wanted to convert from voltage regulated fans speed to PWM and while i dont like water cooling, i am not going on compromise about cooling and airflow. Its needed when i push the system hard like getting the old CPU to 4.75 GHz.

4.6 GHz is not so rare on the good xeons with proper cooling. I manage 4.75 GHz my I7 980X on air. Se below. 4.75 GHz is benchmark only off cause as it needs around 1.55 volts for 4.75 GHz.

That has more to do with scarcity of the parts rather than actual real world value. By this point, those old high end X58 parts and i7 980X or 990X are more like collector items than parts to be used on a daily basis or perhaps for trying to set some records, not that they are really all that relevant. Take a look at the Phenom II X6 1090T and 1100T, despite their age and relatively low performance nowadays, they still command a pretty decent price. 1090Ts on average trade for $70 to $80 in working condition and 1100Ts go as high as $145 in working condition despite the fact that you can effectively get double or even triple the performance out of a Ryzen 5 1600/1600X for like $60~65 or a Ryzen 5 2600/2600X for around $70~80. Hell, if you back even farther, you have the Core 2 Extreme QX9770 which commands as much as $200! The fact is that as time goes on, those old iconic high end parts are becoming harder and harder to find in working condition so people who have them aren't willing to let them go for cheap, if at all. You'd be hard pressed to find a board like a EVGA Classified SR-2 under $400 or even find someone selling a board like the Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD9.

Oooo that's a Gigabyte? Never seen one in the wild AFAIK, but I haven't looked much at Gigabyte boards. I like my Classifieds, have the X58 Classy 3-Way SLI and the biggboye 4-Way SLI. The biggboye was brand new, never used, though they still didn't have the box (I don't understand throwing away the box for these or the SR-2, they're $400-650 motherboards at MSRP). I don't have anywhere close to the setup to push them near the limit though, they're incredibly overkill boards. Never done sub-zero stuff either, most I've done is custom loop water.

I nearly bought one of those on Ebay a while back. Haven't seen another crop up in over a year.

I keep getting tempted to do an SR2 build but I'm honestly struggling with a justification for building one aside from 'this is super cool despite being super old'. I'm having enough trouble deciding what to do with my X58 system now that I've gone with a Ryzen 3rd gen build (reason: need AVX instructions for WindowsMR, that was super fun to discover...). I keep going back and forth between an Unraid/Freenas setup on the X58 for pretty much pure NAS/media server, or letting it sit idle, or parting it out.

I have a couple SR-2s, haven't really done much with them other than confirm one boots fine with two CPUs and the other only boots with one (got that for $99 "broken" so I can't complain). Same thing, haven't really had a... use for them besides that they're amazing boards. I've been throwing all my spare cash into my main setup right now, maybe once that's done I can do something with an SR-2, have VRM/northbridge blocks for one as well.

Are people actually interested in Phenom overclocking? My buddy has a ROG Crosshair IV Extreme and a 1100T just sitting on a shelf right now and I figured it would have to go on ebay for months. I was also thinking about tossing it in a system with a GTX 570 and trying to get rid of it for like $200-250.

or even an X58A-OC, arguably the best X58 board out there for sub zero clocking, can't find them at all, and if you can they're stupid expensive

I've found a local deal for a custom-built PC with an i7 920, Gigbyte GA-X58A-OC, a big Noctua cooler (not sure which one), 6GB of RAM, Corair VX550W, HD 3650, and some random CM case for CDN$200. If I replaced the CPU for an X5675 and threw in a decent graphics card, I'd have a pretty decent system.

Also, how much could I sell a Gigbyte GA-X58A-OC for if I wanted to (I literally can't find any pricing for it)?

High end X58 mobos usually go for around $200-220, $110-120 if you want a quick sale.

I mean, its in the same category of "Does anyone care about X58 or LGA775 overclocking anymore". Its a niche thing for serious enthusiasts or collectors to play with. It really teaches you the ropes of doing some serious hardcore overclocking without the training wheels that AI overclocking, PBO, or any other auto overclocking features or utilities have. My Phenom II X6 1090T is a pretty impressive chip and I'm kinda surprised that it still works despite how I'm using it as a daily driver. I have it clocked at 4.16Ghz with HT as close to 2000mhz as possible. I also have the ram clocked up to 2006Mhz with CL9 timings (its a 16GB kit of G.Skill Sniper 2400 CL11) The fact that the IMC hasn't failed is impressive but it's given me the best cpu performance that I've gotten out of this chip. If I had better cooling, I might be able to push the core clock higher because its almost stable at 4.3Ghz at 1.65V but I think its just getting too hot at that point. You can only go so far on a H110i GTX.

On a different note, I swapped out the gpu and tried installing windows 10 on my X58 rig but the issue still persists. After I get windows installed, drivers and updates installed, something caused the drive to become unbootable. Its somewhat fixable with windows 10 but even after you fix the booting issue, once windows is fully loaded, it hard crashes and its unable to boot again. This is with everything at stock settings, the only thing I changed in the bios is the sata ports are all set to AHCI instead of IDE. I think its the X5650 causing issues. I wish I had a different chip to test with to verify that its the cpu causing the issue before I try to buy a replacement.

Exactly. Its for people who still want to manually push a chip to the limits and have more control over how everything behaves.

Hmmmm. I have a few e-series westmere quads, I may be able to dig one up and test it then send it your way this weekend.
