Synergy, buy it for "life"

What a stupid argument. When you bought synergy did you buy it for the basic features it advertises, or did you buy it because you were banking on them adding features later that would make the software usefull for you? If the former, then why are you mad? If it works, then isn't that the reason you bought it for? If the latter, then your fault for not waiting to buy until they implemented the features you needed. At the end of the day, as stated above, one time payment software is never sustainable, look at minecraft, for example: when microsoft acquired minecraft, the java version had already sold more copies than could ever be sold in the future. So, microsoft made the "windows 10 edition"(yes, I know it is now free) as well as the "minecraft story mode" game, and all of the dlc to keep rolling in the profits from the brand, although none of that was mentioned when people had first bought the java version years ago. If synergy kept up with the one product, one time payment model, they would eventually run out of money to even update the original product after enough of their target market had bought their product. Sorry, but that's just the way the world spins.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

And for all the people who bought Synergy recently and are now upset about this change, have you not researched the product at all before buying it? Symless has been talking about Synergy 2 for over a year, and announced to devs recently that it would be released soon.

 

In fact it's already been in testing on their Git for quite a while now...

Ya, you weren't expecting to get the MX Master 2 when you bought the first one. But I was Promised lifetime access to Synergy and NEW FEATURES when I purchased Synergy and there was no mention of a Synergy 1 and Synergy 2.

because it wasnt the plan at the time. If you buy the first assassins creed game you are being promised lifetime access to assassins creed. doesnt mean you are entitled to all future assassins creed games.

Their release of a new product doesn't remove anything from the product you paid for and receive lifetime access to.

 

Should Logitech give you an MX Master 2 because you bought an MX Master just before they released the 2?

 

People seem to have some weird ideas about software just because it's a little easier to update than hardware...

I have to say about this $15 offer, there's nothing that says you get the final version of Synergy 2 when it's released.  And if you do, they don't say which version you get, pro or basic.

I haven't seen a single place that they've referenced it.

Google is burrying all of the "synergy 2" search results in the recent beta release, but here's an archived discussion on their forums of where the link was to the beta signups from back in May.

 

They've been discussing it openly on GitHub issues since like February 2016, and weren't exactly keeping it secret on their forums prior to their recent overhaul.

Oh wow. It looks like Synergy 2 Pro will be getting a price increase from $29 USD to $49 USD.

 

I assume Synergy 2 Basic will also be bumped to $29 USD from $19 USD.

Synergy 2 basic now includes a bunch of the stuff from pro though. Like encryption is standard now, which is the most important part  of why I couldn't ever recommend basic before (especially now with cloud services).

Not sure. Probably the live support from current pro and some of the cloud services are likely restricted to Pro and Enterprise.

Just got an email stating it was $29, no mention of existing users in that email... Now they may still offer existing users a free upgrade, but I bet some existing users will buy it from this email not realizing they may have a free upgrade coming. Not liking this move at all.

Yeah. First we get Synergy 1 Which seems like everything new will just be an update to it. Then they go and release a completely new version after getting tons of customers for 1. So then lots of us go and get 2 for a super cheap special offer and now they say "oh we'll give it to you for free!"  yeah..... yet I already bought it....
