Buying a used cooler

Hello,

 

Some guy is selling an NH-D15 for $25. Used for 2 years, and cleaned with compressed air. I asked him if there was any damages, and he sent me pics of the heatsink. What do you guys make out of the following pics?

Edit: Original thermal paste from Noctua is included, but it's from 2015. Is this just as good as buying new paste?

I'd like to look at the base plate more. Damaging a few fins dont affect performance much.

It seems ok to me. Make sure he proves that fans all work. Also the fan on the side might block some DIMM slots on your mobo.

Did you see my edit about the thermal paste? I have low profile RAM, so that should be no problem. If there's any clearance issues, I can raise that fan higher.

Thermal paste dont go bad over time. What makes them go bad is being dryed out. The stock paste should be usable, but I wouldnt save money on such a cheap thing.

Yes. 1. Just in case the stock one is dry and 2. New paste are usually better than what comes with the cooler.

That's an excellent deal. The fans themselves are already a good value and it looks to be in great condition. 

The paste should be fine.

Overall steal price for cooler, even if fans would have issues. Just heatsink could compete with stock coolers :D

I would get another tube. While it might be fine, Noctua only gives 2 year recommendation to their paste. But more because I have installed several Noctua coolers with stock paste. That has just enough for 2-3 installs. So unless you can get like pic from tube on kitchen scale to see if there's enough (stock tube is 2g), you can't be sure how many times its already been used.

I would get another tube. While it might be fine, Noctua only gives 2 year recommendation to their paste. But more because I have installed several Noctua coolers with stock paste. You have to confirm with someone else, but I can only see an LGA115x bracket. Your PC in the signature uses LGA 2011, so unless you use the bracket on the old cooler or this isnt the machine you are buying the NH-D15 for, it might not fit in.

2011 boards have a built-in backplate that the screws go into and the 115x brackets have holes for 2011.
