Should I wait for GTX 1070 Ti or just go with GTX 1070?

Sankhadeep

Since there's a lot of speculation that we may get a GTX 1070 Ti on October. Because the price of the GTX 1070 is yet to be confirmed. And as far as I think, if it is as powerful as a 1080, then it will be priced like 1080.

What do you mean the price of the 1070 is not confirmed? The 1070 has been out since May 2016

I havnt seen anything to confirm or deny the existence of the 1070ti but ive seen a lot of rumors no doubt. That being said, id wait to awhile to see if it is in fact legit.  Assuming its real, my guess would be that nvidia is trying to put out a card to compete with vega 56 so I expect the price/performance will be pretty good.  I expect the price/performance will be better than a 1080.

Again, assuming its real.

The thing is the normal GTX 1070 we have today already competes with the Vega 56 just fine:

RX Vega 56 isnt anything to be worried about since the 1070 isnt power hungry the only thing the vega cards are good for are video editing nothing more

As reported by Gamers nexus, " the 1070 and V56 exchange places in gaming benchmark – it just depends on which game and API is on the bench." the problem is that vega 56 pricing is jacked right now.  otherwise the 56 would be a strong competitor with the 1070 - hence the 1070ti, to put nvidia back on top of the mid-range market.

Be careful cherry picking results:  "the 1070 and V56 exchange places in gaming benchmark – it just depends on which game and API is on the bench" -Gamers Nexus review of vega 56

Pricing has fucked up and I'd still take a gtx 1070 over vega, vega has a long way to go, and a galax 1070 with a OC is the equivalent to a 1080 in performance so no point in buying a vega card in my opinion unless you are going for full video editing, or mining

Vega is a good card, but they just f'ed up so badly with overpricing it, making it a power hungry card, and doing it in such a half done manner in the sense they want to compete you arent competing if you made the price too high, you put it in bundles that miners are still gonna buy, and on top of that the temps etc its like screwing yourself in the Video card market

What you quote kinda just proves what I just said, the GTX 1070 already is faster and much more economic, V56 is more of a computing card, gamers should stick to nVidia.

There's only ever been xx50ti and xx80ti cards. You won't see a 1060/1070ti anytime soon, if ever. The "ti" has been reserved for the lowest/highest tier GTX cards since forever

I agree for the most part, but my original point was that nvidia wants to stay on to of the mid-range market, hence the 1070ti to edge out the v56.  From a practical stand point the efficiency hardly matters, at least to me it doesnt, the difference on your power bill would be negligible.

That might be true, but that doesnt mean a 1070ti cant exist if the market is right.

And the 1070 isnt faster, the review said the trade blows depending on the game, the 1070 is however more power efficient.

If it'll compare to a 1080 in performance at a better price, it'll make the 1080 obsolete. Not a smart move and they know that. So no, a 1070ti couldn't exist

The 1080 is old so if a 1070ti gets/keeps nvidia market share then I could see nvidia doing that.  Ti cards are basically cards that cannibalize a previous card.  The 1080ti made the titan xp look like a joke for example.

But you might be right, we'll have to wait and see I suppose.
