Should I buy a dac and amp? Some questions about amp+dac

Karatekidhero

I have the dt 990 pro paired up with a modmic 5. My friends report a "hissing sound" when I speak. Will a dac+amp remove that? Do I plug the mic into the dac or the amp? And will a dac+amp make my heaphones sound better than the audio on my msi MSI Z270 Gaming M3 motherboard? I have also heard that dac+amps with external power supplies create static noise. Is this true?

What dac+amp do you recommend I buy? I was looking at a schiit stack but it's quite expensive and I don't know if it will be worth it..

Thanks for reading, and I really appreciate any answers. :D

You can't really connect a mic to an external DAC or AMP, those are for headphones or speakers. And yes it does sound a lot better than the standard audio out from a motherboard.

I have not heard about the issues with regards to static noise with dac+amps with external power supplies, so I can't comment about that.

What do you recommend I do to get rid of the static noise on my mic? Thanks

I think a usb sound card might be the best cheap option.

External audio interface is quite a lot more expensive than cheap USB sound cards if you are just connecting a modmic to it.

So a soundcard is certain to remove the static entirely? And how does one know that a soundcard is able to push a mic to it's best quality possible? Hope that made sense

I haven't used one personally, but that Audigy RX was what I almost picked for the dual 3.5mm mic inputs in it. And I've heard to minimize possible static/noise, install the sound card as far from other components as possible (further from CPU&GPU the better) while still connecting it on the motherboard. (Obviously)

Ok thank you. The audiophile world is new to me and it's quite hard understanding things. I'm still a noob. :P

Honestly, same. I've had audiophile equipment for some time, but only just getting around to really tinkering with it.
