Not necessarily. Linus did that video way back with the Best Buy ASUS prebuilt and found the price to be a little better I believe because of the volume they are able to move.

In my opinion the best part is to inform/ build/ troubleshoot after that come that you can save some bucks.

Well I did try on PCPartPicker, and was not able to get a better price, the point of this post is too see if any of you could do better.

That price isn't bad at all for a pre-built. Hard to match it.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/T8cvr7

I personally wouldn't go for it, due to the locked down H270 motherboard preventing both CPU and memory overclocking (not that you would make it too far on a 212 evo anyways), and the fact that PSU quality is not advertised. I would aim for a 500w gold at minimum if I were going for a high end gaming build with a GTX 1070. Still, trying to match or exceed that is difficult once you factor in cost of the OS.

Yeah you could save $$ by buying it from Kingpin, nice build though, with some $$ saved from OS afford a better mobo.

Even without WIndows, it is pretty hard to beat, although the components I chose are much higher quality (likely better PSU, better GPU, better cooler, and a full ATX mobo that supports OCing)

Issues I see with this box:

  • mATX motherboard in an ATX case.
  • no motherboard specs, does it use a z270 (or z170) chipset (looks very similar to an ASRock Pro motherboard except there is an Asus ROG logo on the rear i/o)
  • USB WiFi adapater
  • Deepcool cpu cooler
  • no info on psu

That is an ASrock H270M Pro4, have worked with it a few times. The rear IO is definitely confusing though. It is clearly an ROG logo with WiFi antenna's on the back, yet the cheapest ASUS motherboard that supports WiFi is ITX. The only non-ITX motherboards that support wifi by ASUS on 1151 (that are still currently sold on the market) are $180/$190 Strix boards. I highly doubt they splurged that much on the motherboard. What is more likely, is they are two different PC's that they are taking pictures of. It's not uncommon for ODM's to re-use the same chassis, but have different hardware inside of them. Perhaps they forgot to get a picture of the asrock board from behind, so they used images from a different, yet similar system to fill that in? Either way, certainly confusing, and potentially false advertisement if someone sees it and expects wifi on the rear I/O.

I don't game on wifi unless I'm using my laptop anyways, plus the signal drops off in the room with my current PC in it. I have a 100ft Cat5 cable running to it.

That was not the point of my post. My post was in reference to the other guy asking what board it was. In one picture showing the side of the case, the motherboard is an ASRock H270M Pro4, but the rear I/O picture does not match that board, and shows both on-board wifi AND an ASUS ROG logo.

If the chipset is not z270, overclocking an i7-7700K cpu would not really be possible.
