If you want to save money, R5 1600. If it doesn't matter to you, r7 1700 and overclock it.

I'm pretty sure the 1700 wins in every way except power draw where it draws a bit more

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

i7-7700K or the i7-8700K when it comes out.

 

If you're on a budget, then the R5 1600. No difference between that and the R7 1700 when it comes to gaming performance.

It's like if you compare i5 to i7...

i7 always win just like ryzen 7 do,
