Looking for Android Phone Recommendation

john01dav

Hello,

I currently have a Galaxy s5 and the charging port is falling apart, and it is frankly astonishing it still charges. As multiple stores have told me repair would cost more than a new phone, due to the screen being shattered in the process, I am looking to buy a new phone.

The features I want in this phone are:

  1. Durability
    1. It should be able to withstand being dropped, either onto hard surfaces such as concrete or wet surfaces such as a toilet or pool
    2. It should be able to handle abusive fidgeting (to the point that I have destroyed keyboards) with minimal damage. This is partially what led to the current charging port issue.
  2. SD or Micro-SD card slot (with no arbitrary size limit)
  3. Battery
    1. (easily) replaceable
    2. Long-lasting battery life to last at least a day, preferably a bit more (2 days maybe?)
    3. Quick-charging, but with longer lasting being a priority
  4. Computing Power
    1. I only use my current phone for taking pictures, youtube and other video sites, reddit, web browsing, and email. I don't need anything fancy. I don't do any mobile gaming at all. The cheapest that can handle a workload like this, including probable increases in computation power needed as programs get less efficient to match future computing power, is what I want.
  5. Fixability
    1. All or as many parts as possible should be able to be fixed cheaply by a phone fixing store, in case they break. I don't want to be stuck in another situation where a failing charging port needs a shattered screen.
  6. Connectivity
    1. I need 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi, in addition to good coverage to the extent that the phone's antenna determines this
    2. I also would prefer a usb3.0 port for charging, data transfer, etc. mainly for improved speed
  7. Screen size is pretty flexible, but the s5 at 5.1" seems to be perfect for me so that's ideal
  8. I'd also, of course, prefer to keep the costs as low as possible, ideally < US$100. I don't know much about cell phones though so I don't really know how feasible that is. Since all I really want is a fixable, non-gaming phone I'd like to think this is reasonable to have at a super low cost.
  9. I need a standard, analog, 3.5mm headphone jack.
  10. It is a very, very, very large plus if major U.S. carriers will offer those plans where you pay an amount per month to get the phone over a long period of time, as opposed to a large upfront payment.

I know that list is long, but I intend to keep this phone for as long as possible -- ideally 10+ years -- so I want to make sure I get a good one. Thanks for reading and in advance for any recommendations :)

You won't get anything in that price range that will last 10+ years. My grandma's moto g 2nd gen ($200 CAD on contract, usually $300) from 2.3 years ago is already lagging to the point where it's almost unusable. All she does on that phone is text and read the bible (she is religious)

I think the only phone that might work is the moto g 5.

It's battery is large and will last you a day not issue, its removable which is a plus.

the screen is 5 inchs

its fast enough for daily things

was just released in last the 2 months or so

It comes with sd slot.

And its on 7.0

here are the full specs

http://www.gsmarena.com/motorola_moto_g5-8454.php

But any phone will not last you 10 years

Usb micro B will last a maximum of 3-4 years before failing.

the battery will slowly lose its ability to fully charge as with any phone
