Network Job Pricing Help!

Hello! I am doing my first business networking job. I have to reorganize and fix the layout of the rack. I was wondering if I should charge by the hour or just a flat rate?

Thanks,

Matthew

Hourly but it depends on how much work is involved. If it's a huge disaster then maybe charge a bit more but still within reason. If the cabling isn't terrible then maybe you could get away with a flat fee instead but if you're talking several days then charge by the hour, explain why, and lay it out so they know you aren't trying to just rip them off.

What is a good starting price to charge? This is the cable mess.

That's maybe a few hours of work, a day at most. Charge what you think is reasonable, not sure the area so the going rates could be different.

I was imagining much worse :P

I recently did a bigger job but at work so I couldn't charge them.

What i would quote for is 2.5 days of work and proper brackets, shelves for equipment, and lots of cable ties. You will look more professional giving a quote; keeping to it and finishing on time.

That's exactly what I ordered yesterday. You read my mind.

make sure you charge them well for some rack ears to mount those switches :P

If you are doing that i would suggest looking at replacing that switch with one good unit and maybe a proper UPS?

On a job like that i would also replace all the crappy power cables as well.

Nice. Remember to bill people for stuff like that (and cables).

Honestly quote them for a day longer than you think it would take just in case you encounter something that takes you longer than expected to do. Honestly explain it to them what needs to be done and If you finish it earlier than you tell them it makes them happy. But that''s my two cents
