Hi all,

I acquired a Dell Vostro 270s for free some time ago and was wondering if I could upgrade it to make it fit for 1080p gaming. I was thinking of putting in a low profile/mini (single slot) 1050 ti, as well as throwing in some more RAM and a SSD.

I have a few concerns/questions that I hope you guys could answer;

Will the motherboard be able to supply all the power I need for the 1050 ti? I've heard some things about Dell limiting pci-e power but I can't find any labeling that would suggest that on this machine.

Will the PSU be able to handle the 1050 ti? I can't find a label (in the computer or online) that tells me the wattage of the PSU, so any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Would I need to get any extra cables to plug in the SSD (i.e. SATA cables?) or do they come with the SSD/are they in the computer already?

Thanks for the help!

Note: This is my first time building/upgrading, sorry if any of the questions are a bit basic.

The SSD should be fine, as the current drive in that system is a SATA drive.
You might have to remove the current drive to plug in your SSD, but the cables would already be in the system.

1050 TI doesn't need any extra power, so an additional power cable won't be necessary.

As for supplied power via PCI-e or what the max watts on the PSU are, I'm unsure.

I would guess that you should be completely fine. The worst you could do is get your 1050 from somewhere with a good return policy.

Best buy and amazon both have good ones, whichever is easier for you.

As for ram, the system will have 2 slots that you could fit DDR3 at 1600 Mhz.
I would put in 8 GB, as that is generally the lowest you should start at, and the max for some of these lower end systems.

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm planning to buy all my parts from microcenter, as I hear that the support is good from there.

Yeah microcenter is super helpful. You should tell them you plan to put the card in a dell prebuilt so they know to show you the gtx 1050tis that have no extra power connectors.

I would say most SSDs and hard drives don't come with SATA cables. They are like 50 cents on ebay anyway :/

Just to clarify on this

Most 1050TI's will be able to be powered by the PCI-E slot without issue (I say most, because there are examples of 1050ti's using 6 pin power connectors like the EVGA FTW version. Many versions though, like their SC do not require additional power though!)

HOWEVER

I just went through and found the manual..... I dont think there will be room for the GPU. The board has two PCIE slots, one x1 and one x16, but the x16 is the lower slot, so it looks like only "single slot" styled cards will fit (page 20)

That fits into two slots actually (the cooler does) so more than likely you'll need to get that low profile card from amazon if you want to make it work
